1000 cals a day is undereating; which means ur body will hold on to the fat thus making your metabolism slow down. but 500 cals is WAY too lil to eat per day, and if u r losing weight, chances r it's water and muscle.
best bet for u is to eat 1200 to 1500 cals a day. and work out 5 days a week for an hour. but u must sweat!
GOOD LUCK and love yourself

Thats strange. Have you talked to a dietican? or even your doctor?

Confused That is unhealthy. Have you talked to a doctor? I wouldn't just eat 500 calories, perhaps you weren't loosing beacuse your body was building muscle, retaining water or simply was irregular! Here is a few suggestions, increase your fiber, drink more water and you eat small meals and have a few apple pieces(any fruit) or veggie pieces to increase your metabolism in between. You can also go on-line and lookup a caloric regimen and put your information in and the chart gives you what your body needs to be healthy and loose weight. Check each time you loose weight to ensure, you can lower the calories if needed. At a certain point you simply would be at a set amount and still be healthy/trim. Do you workout? Please make sure you are taking vitamins in replace of the low calories, that way you won't get sick. If you are working out each day atleast 30 minutes a day you should be burning enough to help your body loose even a little every few days. Good luck to you and be safe. Hope to see you doing better and feeling better. Very Happy

You may want to try reading the "Fat Resistance Diet" by Dr. Leo Galland. It discusses the changes that happen to our bodies from eating too much/too frequently and how to reverse that. The recipes are very good, too! (his son is a chef and made up the recipes)

I know this is a bit irrelevant but what kind of foods are you eating?

As other have said you must eat more, and if you want to lose weight tackle it from the cals burnt (exercise) side and not the reduction if caloric intake.

You don't say what kind or how much exercise you are doing, and studies have shown that we tend to over-state how much exercise we get. If you are doing aerobics in an hour-long class three or four times a week and are doing an hour or two of weight training twice a week, you should be able to eat 1400 calories a day and still lose weight. You should never eat less than 1100 calories a day - you are telling your body to shut down all but essential functions, slow down its metabolism and store fat.

You also don't say where you are in relation to your ideal body weight. Don't expect to lose weight if you are already below that.

I've been on a low calorie diet quite similar and I've been losing lots of weight steadily. But really don't let people tell you what to do; if 500 calories makes you lose weight, and you're getting all the vitamins your body needs daily, then go for it Smile

I agree that 500 (even 1000) is to few calories. However, do you have PCOS? Studies have shown that women with PCOS have a lower basal metabolic rate than those without. This means that if a woman (based on body composition/activity level) has a BMR of say 1400, the same woman with PCOS would have a BMR of 1250. (My numbers are just an example.) Women with PCOS burn fewer calories just 'existing' than those without. But I would seriously talk to a doctor -- they can help you figure out hour BMR, and how many calories you should be eating.

Fattouna.. maybe you should try JUDDDD? It's Johnson's UpDayDownDay Diet. You basically eat somewhere around 500 cals one day and then you eat whatever you want the next day, without OVEREATING. It's been working wonders for me! I eat 500 one day and 1900 the next day. When you add those two up (2400) and divide it in half, that's 1200 cals a day. It's pretty effective for people with special circumstances that keep them from losing weight. But everyone's different.

Basically, the 500 cal days shock the system into producing a gene that promotes weight loss. Then going back up to higher cals the next day insures that you don't plateau. I've been doing it since April 7th. I've lost 12 lbs, but I'm a big girl too, so weight loss starts out quick for me in the beginning.

I know what you mean! I am on 1200 calories, AND I walk every day... and still no weight loss!!! I hate that!! Anyway, I plan on increasing my activity. Loosing weight over 40 is a pain!
