Using the fat secret app on my new G1 Tmobile phone has really helped me keep track of my calories. The phone has a bar code scanner where I can scan the foods I eat into my food journal. It makes it easy to search for the foods I eat before I eat them. This also helps me make a more informed decision on how much I need to eat with my running calorie total. I have lost 10 pound in two weeks being on a 2000 calorie diet. Very Happy

I am having trouble syncing my G1 with my online account. Does anyone have any tips? I cannot find any settings in the app on the phone to make it look for my account information online. Does my account on fatsecret have to be tied to my gmail, etc. ?

I just installed it this week through the market. It's called "Calorie Counter" though, not FatSecret.

Yeah, the name of the Android App is "calorie counter" and you can find it in the marketplace by searching for that term. You can see FatSecret in the author field.

Everything you do ties into the database on this site, so if the network is down for any reason it will behave as if it lost everything. If you wait for it to reconnect to Fatsecret (which can take a couple of hours) it will synchronize with the database here and you get all your info back.

I'm not seeing it either. I've searched and scanned for calorie, counter, calorie counter, fat, fat secret, fatsecret and even tried case variations. I also just dug through the first few hundred most popular apps (new phone)... I'm dissappointed, tracking my food easily was one of the reasons I just got the G1. I hope it's just a glitch.

Thanks. I just got the G1 today and I'm more excited the longer I play with it. There are many great little apps, and I look forward to making my own.

Another thread suggests that I just need to wait for my new phone to auto update: http://www.fatsecret.com/groups/google-g1-calorie-counter-app-users/Posts.aspx?m=58242 Other research shows this issue affecting other apps as well.

For the technically minded: Apparently the G1 doesn't have an official "Check for updates" feature. There are some hacks, but the cautious answer is just to wait.

For reference: Your Android build number is home >> menu >> settings >> about phone >> scroll down. Under Kernel version there is a line reading something like:
android-build@apa27 #1

I'm on 27, I know that 30 came out in October (http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/11/google-fixes-an.html), and it seems that some people are on at least 33. Since my phone was just activated today, this all makes good sense, and the app will probably work once TMobile updates my phone.

Update: My G1 updated itself and I can now get the Calorie Counter Application. There are quite a few other fixes.

Anyone with a new G1 should wait for the update to judge their phone, or to think that anything is broken. It took 3 days for my phone to update.

Also, the update was to the build, not the Kernel version (I thought I was at APA27 because of my Kernel version, but my build was RC19). Since my phone is updated I'm not sure the build was listed there in RC19, but the build number is on the same page (Home >> Menu >> Settings >> About phone >> scroll down >> under Build) as the kernel version in RC33. There is also a "Check for updates" button now.

I love my G1. It's how I found Fat Secret also. I like the calorie and protien tracking but does anyone know how to track fiber? I've used fitday, sparkpeople and caloriecount.about.com and I miss the fiber tracking.

Hi. New to FatSecret.com (Found it through Calorie Counter on my G1)
I had to create a new account (don't ask) and now can't get my G1 to sync with the new account (think it's still trying to sync with the old account that FS deleted). Does anyone know how to get rid of the login info? I have unistalled and re-installed and it goes right back to the other info. I've asked FS folks about it (weeks ago) and no reply as of yet.

Is the Calorie Counter app available for any data-type phone, like the Palm Pre? If not, who do I contact to beg for it?

Is this phone unlockable for AT&T phones? I would love to get one specifically for this app. I'm sure I could find more uses for it as well.

Hi yall!

I've had my G1 since Christmas, it was a present. I have loved it ever since. My only concern with the phone is the battery life.

I, too, discovered FS through it, although I didnt sign up for over a month. My mistake, as I now love this site, the people on it, the advice and all the helpful information you get here.

Someone earlier asked about syncing G1 and FS. On your G1 go into the calorie counter, push the menu button on your phone, there is an option to sync there. Also have everything sync to the website if its your first time syncing as your phone has limited space compared to the website. Another way to sync is to click into the calorie counter and go straight to the bottom of the list, there is the option there as well.

I hear the calorie counter is also on the iphone, but I cant guarantee it, as my sister in law has one and she hasnt found it yet. She is using a different calorie counter.

I know this sounds horrible but Im having more progress with the FS calorie counter than she is with hers on her iphone, sooooo..... Bad Grin

And for some strange reason, even though he says he isnt dieting my husband is looking for FS on his Nokia N97. He says wants to compare it on his to what I see on my G1... LOL yeah, riiiiight!
Like he says, "I'll believe it, millions wouldn't, but I'll believe ya."

FS seems to be everywhere right now, I can also get in iGoogle, facebook, twitter (well, I havent exactly looked into it there, but you can get tweets). I know those arent phones, but it can also help with your accountability as I know people who have some friends on facebook but on twitter, they are a whole other group of people. People you know in real life vs those you know only from the internet, that's their reasoning, I'll let them stick to it Very Happy .

In the UK, G1 is locked to T-mobile at this time. I dont know about the States, but I believe it is locked to certain carrier(s), just not sure which one(s).

I havent had to change my name on the site, so I cant really help there.

Hope these replies help as they are to the best of my knowledge.
Have a lovely day yall!
