BLUE LAGOONIE LOONIES:
Here we are, into week one with our team color and name and many GREAT team mates!
This will be our personal BLUE TEAM FORUM to encourage each other and give ideas and gripe or whatever it is we need. Let's be sure to still post on the main forum. I personally think it's important to learn from one another and the more people we listen to, the more we can learn! This forum though is for just for us to get to know each other and to really help each other along with our BEACH'es.
How are we doing with our BEACH'es? I have to admit, my first few days have been a real struggle. I don't want to let you all down though so I WILL kick it into high gear!
How are you all doing fellow Blue Lagoonie Loonies?

We have two new members of Blue Lagoonie loonies, both of which are people I have known here on F.S. and they will be an asset to our team. Please welcome dwhummers and sharonfriz. Both of these people have been in challenges before and do great. This sign up was a short one (I did that on purpose to keep it simple and personal too) so I think some good pals like these two deserve a very warm welcome and a YIPPEE for joining us LOONIES!
Have an AWESOME day and let's STAY ON THE BEACH!!!!

Well here I am, I started my BEACH on Monday even though I hadn't got my email responses in on time. Thanks for letting me get in on the fun!

Banned excuse: I can't get to the rec center by 6pm so I don't have enough time for my workout.

My preferred workout: 1.5 hours in the pool with water walking, water aerobics and swimming. These are the perfect exercises for the arthritis that starts at my feet and works it self up my legs and lower back.

New habit: If I have 30 minutes, I have time!

I have defined my daily points as
1 pt for <20 carbs / day (Atkins)
1 pt for 64 oz water
1 pt for 7 hrs sleep
1 pt for 15 min of exercise
1 pt for > 30 min exercise

7/21 beginning weight: 253
M 7/21 4 pts
T 7/22 4 pts
W 7/23 4 pts

TOM and his buddy CRAMPS has been visiting all week so I haven't visited the pool yet but I have started walking circles around the atrium of the office building. As soon as I get in the pool I will be getting 5 pts!

Go Loonies, take over the BEACHES!!!!

I can't give myself a 5 yet on any day, but I WILL today! I keep using excuses that I'm "If I don't gain, it can't be bad for me." But I know it is and it effects my blood pressure and heart rate. I do not want to get put on medication again.
Ok team...let's get going. Don't forget to make sure your weight is current and email me your tallies for the week and your current weight tomorrow by noon EST. We'll get a good feel for where we are and what we need to do.
We'll have a mini challenge next week and those are always fun and they are also great ways to earn our team points!
Have a glorious day fellow Loonies!

I am so excited that I had to get on here RIGHT after my workout!! (I stink, lol)

I can honestly say that I earned a 5 today and I couldn't have done it without all of your help!!

Thanks to all your suggestions, I have substituted the ICBINB spray with the Smart Balance Squeeze, bought 100% cranberry juice to make cran water (to combat the bloat), combined lean proteins and dense veggies for my last two meals (making fish taco salad tonight...YUM!) and added a high protein snack of almonds (100 calorie serving) and string cheese) instead of the crappy sugary low-cal and low nutrient stuff I had been eating before. Still kept with the water...and you know what? NO HUNGER, I FEEL AMAZING, AND I DRANK OVER 80 OZ OF WATER TODAY!

And that's not even including my latest feat...I ACTUALLY MADE IT TO THE GYM TODAY! Jasmine was an absolute doll and wrote out her time-friendly but great workout gym plan for me. At her suggestion, I did 20 minutes of running at an incline (I was sweating more than I ever have after my usual 45 minutes on the elliptical) and then I did her quick whole body weight routine. I have NEVER known what to do unless I was with a trainer, but her suggestions made me feel like I knew where to go and what to work on..no excuses! Smile And the clincher...I actually rode my bike to and from the gym (its close, but on the way back I was carrying all my new diet munchies on my handle bars...there's a grocery store next to my gym).

I feel amazing, and accomplished and guess what? My boyfriend did call to apologize for our earlier row. Wink

Plus...amazingly, my points are even lower than normal for this time of day!! Smile

Go blue team, go!! And to all the beachers: thanks so much for your tips and encouragement...it has made a world of difference!!

Did my weigh in this morning----lost 1 lb despite TOM and water gain this week!!! Yesterday the office had its annual regional meeting and I was able to WALK the 3 blocks to the meeting without stopping and without hurting! It didn't take 30 minutes to and back so being true to my point system, yesterday is 4 pts. But I feel like a WINNER, a few months ago I would never had been able to that, at least not without severe and tearful pain. My coworkers even noticed the improvement!

I am still getting 4 pts each day, BUT I want a 5!!! To get the 5, I need a couple more hours each day, oh well, guess I am going to have to re-evaluate my priorities, adjust my daily routines, and say NO to something--or maybe just NO to myself. Gotta get back to the pool. Walking is okay and easier than it has been the past but without the water support for my joints and back, after 4 days my knees, hips and back are beginning to scream with pain. ok I am gonna have to suck it up and get tough!!!

Ksmith, hope today goes better for you and your son. Maybe the stress took care of those pancakes.

Laurel Lu, WOW you are doing Great! I am going to use your success as my motivation to get a 5 pointer!

Ms Lifeguard, please, please don't turn that "angry" face my way! LOL

Good Morning team. Thank you so much for the welcome. On the main post I gave my description of my BEACH plan. The whole dieting process for me is the combination of mental and physical. So my approach to BEACH has an exercise component and a thinking component. I am giving myself points for exercise and for healthy thinking about food. For example I have my husbands leftover birthday carrot cake on my counter and can you hear the excuses to do the wrong thing???
it's carrots, it's his birthday, it's only once a year, you'll exercise later and work it off, it's only a skinny piece, tomorrow is another day....blah blah,blah....I am very good at justifying bad choices- so this morning I looked at the carrotcake and said- you aren't healthy, you won't help me achieve my goals, and you aren't worth it. i made a healthy breakfast and the day is off on a good foot. I love accountablility The scale was my frend this morning. I am going to lose every ounce I gained and achieve my goal weight- GO BLUE LOONIES!!!!!

Well week one out the way. ImLuuved you are so right, changing your habits is really hard. Hasn't been a really successful week (I'm still struggling to find motivation to get up and workout in the morning) but I have been more active this week, thanks to BEACH - I didn't want to let our team down. One habit that I have kicked into gear is walking my dog when I get home from work, he is loving that.

Way to go everyone.

Im sorry I've been MIA the last day and a half. I had some bad sugar withdrawals and I gave into a few of them resulting in a REALLY bad blood pressure and heart rate again. Sad I laid and felt awful for a day and am back on phase1 now to get rid of those awful cravings. AND...to get my blood pressure back in check. I was 140/101.
The new mini challenge will be posted on Sunday and our new week starts Monday...Let's kick it into high gear!

ATTENTION BLUE LAGOONIE LOONIES....I just posted next weeks mini challenge. I say it's time we pull it together as a team and start kicking some BEACH BUTT! We have an awesome team with some great people and some great success already!
We had the first week to get used to how things work here so now it's time to apply what we know!
We can earn our team points by doing the mini challenge. Go to the main post and read about it. (I'm also attaching it here in this message) I'll also be sending an email out tomorrow to each of you. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you. We knew it wasn't going to be super easy to stick to our BEACH but we already have one week down and 3 left...let's show those other beachers what BLUE TEAM is made of!!!!
Woo hooo let's go BLUE!!!

HERES A COPY OF THIS WEEKS MINI CHALLENGE:

***WEEK 7/27/08 to 8/01/08 MINI CHALLENGE***:
Do not rush, you have time (until next Friday when your report to your lifeguard) to come up with your answer to this weeks mini challenge.

1. It is summer and many of us use the excuse, "it's too hot to cook" or "But it was a BBQ" or "Picnic" and so forth and so forth as some of our summer EXCUSES to cheat. For this weeks challenge the first thing you need to do is think of a good BBQ/Picnic or "Too hot to cook day" side dish or salad dish. You didn't think it would be an easy main entree did ya? So look up some HEALTHY and or DIET FRIENDLY recipes or use one you already make and enjoy.

2. Post that recipe on the main challenge site. Be sure to let your lifeguard know when you send your weekly report in on Friday that you did post your recipe. I will collect the recipes and make a recipe post when this challenge is complete.

3. Name one of the top 2 or 3 ingredients in your recipe and tell us something that is a benefit to eating this food.

You will earn 10 points for your team by posting your recipe and telling us a benefit to eating one of the main ingredients in the recipe. ONLY ONE RECIPE ENTRY PER BEACH'er

EXAMPLE: I would list the recipe for three bean salad and I would tell you that red kidney beans are high in potassium and low in sodium so they are a great food to lower blood pressure!

***Let's see all those great side and salad dishes we could all be making, sharing and brining to our picnics on the BEACH!***

Sorry I've been so MIA this weekend! It's been a busy one!

So...my Blue Team Beach totals are as follows:

Friday: 3.5 ate sensibly before the game, worked out in the morning and I managed the game ok...only 1 drink with diet, a veggie dog instead of a real hotdog, and a few of my friend's fries (I know, I know).

Saturday: A BIG FAT 1. Sorry guys. I did the tally for Saturday, and it was ugly!! Dipped into my flex points by 3-4 (only time this week, though, if that means anything). Even though I meant well, and danced much of the night away on just one diet coke & captain morgan (a huge feat for me!)the Burger King (split with a friend!!) did me in. Never. Again. I am glad my eyes have been opened to the reality of the points in this "small" indulgence.

Sunday: 5. Back on track with a low-point, high veggie & water day. Plus me and the BF rode our bikes to a park and spent two hours sweating in the hot sun playing tennis.

Hope all's well with you...and that you enjoyed your weekend and are motivated to be back on track for Monday!

Tally

Well done Laurel Lu. I had a bad Saturday too and gave in to Burger King also - was surprised to see how many points were in the meal! I will be giving that a miss next time - but I do recommend Subway, they have loads of options that are between 4-6 points for a 6" sub and really tasty too.

My tally for Saturday was only a 2, didn't do any exercise and used up all the points I saved for the week on white choc maltesers at the cinema!

My tally for Sunday is a 5! Wow my first 5 and it feels great :c) I stuck to mypoints and even made up for what I was over on Saturday. I did the full Charlie Brooks DVD workout and although I was completely shattered I felt great.

Always, Goodtobeme
