Hi all!

My name is Janet. I'm 42 years old & weigh 247 pounds. I have lost 5 pounds since July 1 on the South Beach Diet. My husband is also on the diet, which helps. However, he normally does all the cooking but I'm doing much more of it now as he doesn't always know (or care) what we should or should not be eating. We both have health problems (mine is rheumatoid arthritis) (his is COPD). We have 2 teenage daughters who thankfully don't have our weight problems, so I have to be sure they get their extras.

I live in WV, and I've always struggled with my weight. I was thin as a very young child only to balloon up to a size 18 in high school. I then went on a crash diet (ate hardly anything) and got down to 139 pounds (I'm 5'8"Wink but it quickly came back on plus more after I got married, then 2 kids. After my 2nd, I lost down to 160 for a very short time. I watched my calories, drank lots of water and exercised 1 hour daily. Once again, it came back on plus more. I'm tired of the yo-yoing & I'm ready to do something. I haven't motivated myself enough yet to exercise, but I will after I lose a few more pounds. That seems to be my motivation to exercise.

I love to eat, and it seems I wake up thinking of what I can eat, and I go to bed thinking about it. I have a hard time getting all my vegetables in. I would welcome any friends that may have things in common with me. It's always nice to have a diet buddy!

Hi Janet (and others)! I just started the South Beach Diet today. Though I have no children I am familiar with the pattern of dieting you talked about, Janet. I am 46 and started peri-menopause about 2 years ago. Seems all my usual tactics (even healthy ones like WW and more exercise) didn't seem to budge the new weight around my middle and in my shoulders and arms. I have suspected I consume too many carbs and sugar and am encouraged that this Phase 1 of the SB diet may give me new insight and even help me lose a few pounds. Let's keep track of each other.
