Are the Atkins shakes intended to be used as meal replacement or a snack? One in the morning for breakfast doesn't seem to curb my appetite until lunch. Maybe it will just take a few days to get used to.

I drink one in between meals if I get hungry. I'm drinking one now. 160 calories will only get you so far but the protein and fiber really helps fill you until you have time to make a healthy wholesome meal. I appreciate the vitamins and minerals because I often forget to take a multivitamin. I also appreciate that they only have 2 carbs.

They are not a meal replacement, however I tend to have 5-6 small meals throughout the day when I am on Atkins anyway, so just have another snack before lunch. You aren't supposed to let yourself get really hungry between meals.
I don't use the shakes because I'm allergic to soy and I don't think all the additives are beneficial. Over time I find I get less hungry the longer I am on the plan. The shakes are not intended for induction as soy is not on the allowed foods list for induction according to
Dr.Atkins' New Diet Revolution
book.
I make my own shakes from recipes from sugarfreesheila.com and the Atkins cookbook, plus I've made up some of my own. Maybe I'll start posting some in the kitchen. The ones I make at home last me well to lunch. I have breakfast at 6:30am most days and I don't get lunch until 12:30, so I know they are dense. Here is a sample one that I made up: (not for induction)
Creamy Raspberry Shake
8 oz unsweetened almond milk (1g)
1/3 cup frozen unsweetened raspberries (2g)
1/4 cup 4% cottage(1.4g)
OR
whole milk ricotta cheese (1.9g)
2 T Almond butter (2g)
1 T flax oil
2 T hemp protein (you can use soy or whey depending on what you like, make sure its S/F)
1 T unsweetened cocoa powder (1g)
2 T vanilla flavor s/f Torani or Davinci syrup
add Splenda to taste (I like mine kind of tart)
1 serving is 7.4-7.9g net carbs depending on the cheese you use.
Love the food that loves you back.

The raspberry shake sounds even better than the vanilla ones I have been drinking in the morning! I will definatley try it this weekend.
I'm glad to hear they are not used as meal replacement. I thought my hunger a few hours after having my shake was due to my incredible appetite ( my appetite is an uphill battle). I will try a cheese stick to hold off the hunger until lunch time.
Have you made your raspberry shakes in advance? I get up really early (4:30 am) for work and I can't imagine having to run the blender at that hour. Perhaps I can mix it up the night before?

I don't recommend mixing it up the night before because it looses its texture while it sits. You'll want to drink it within 10 minutes.
I buy most of that stuff in the natural foods section at my grocery store. I just look for unsweetened almond milk, organic almond butter and unsweetened hemp protein. (I am allergic to soy and whey so I had to find an alternative) I believe on induction you can have whey protein and in OWL you can add soy protein if it doesn't interfere with your weight loss. You can use peanut butter instead of the almond butter, but I suspect I might be allergic to peanuts (even if I'm not they stall my weight loss), so I don't use it. I prefer almond milk because it only has 1g net carbs for 8 oz which is a lot less than any cow's milk, soy or rice milks.
Love the food that loves you back.
