help I'm gaining weight.

I've done Atkins in the past and lost weight. Now I'm doing it exactly as recommended. I check my ketosis several times throughout the day. I am always in ketosis and I'm gaining. No aspertame is consumed, minimal amounts of coffee, Yes I drink lots of water, no diet soda, and only 4 oz. of cheese. any advice. i feel very frustrated, it's been 6 weeks. I'm ready to switch to SouthBeach diet.

From the looks of it, you only have 10 lbs to lose. They can be the hardest to lose. You might want to track your calories and make sure your exercising. Even with Atkins, if you take in too many calories and don't burn them off, you may not lose (especially when you don't have much to lose). But keep trying and if it doesn't work, try something else. If you are within 10 lbs of your goal then you need to add carbs in order to lose weight. Add them in slowly and make sure you add the right carbs. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but it is a different process if you only have a little bit to lose. Once you are no longer craving carbs you need to get off of induction and add some good carbs back in. Start with a bigger variety of veggies.

Another thing you might consider is a food allergy. I didn't have any when I was younger, but I developed them over the years. I now am allergic to wheat, milk and soy. If I eat soy (found in Atkins bars and shakes) I most definitely stall. If i eat wheat I gain. If I have too much dairy I stall, but I can tolerate a little bit of some types of cheeses and butter. You might try to eliminate some common allergens from your diet to see if that helps.

The last 10 lbs are the hardest to lose and it takes a lot of strategy to do it. If Atkins worked before, then you know all about transitioning through the phases to ensure you don't gain the weight back. If you use it as a crash diet it will slow your metabolism over time. If you do it correctly, transitioning through the phases it will lead you to a healthy eating plan so you don't gain the weight back.

I think if she is in ketosis and isn't losing then she is either eating too much, not eating enough, eating too many carbs or too few carbs. The balance isn't there.

Oh, my other quesiton is are your clothes getting looser. You could be losing inches and not pounds yet.

I was away for the weekend, and just now saw the posts. Interestingly, I did add some complex carbs to my diet today and I'm still in ketosis. I have been exercising 3 days weekly (weights, treadmill, walk dogs) for 30-45 min. I even monitor my heartrate to ensure I'm in the aerobic zone. I have already decided to decrease fat and increase some complex carbs (but not too many), in addition to increasing exercise by adding another big day and maybe doing something small everyday (weights on one small body part) I'm going to aim for 80 grams of carbs or less a day, primarily with vegetable, whole grains,oats. I have no problem avoiding potatoes, bread, rice, and pasta, but I LOVE sweets ALL THE TIME!So that part continue to suck. I started Atkins nearly a year ago at 165 lbs. I dropped down to 159-160 and felt great. Holidays hit and I went back up to 167. So no problem, I got back on ATkins and went up to 172 lbs. WHat the...???? So I got to try something different. thanks for the feedback. I greatly appreciate it. If there is any more advice, I'm open to it.

You CAN cut fat when you reintroduce carbs, but don't do it at the expense of extra carbs. What I mean is go for leaner meats but don't stop eating meat. Opt for the full fat dairy products rather than the ones with less fat but lots more carbs. From my research during the last 10+ years, I have found that you don't have to cut fat as long as you stay away from sugar and processed carbs. Most of the fat in eggs, dairy and meat is unsaturated fat, regardless of what you might have heard. Smile

I don't know why I stopped losing on Atkins and started gaining, but the increase in carbs and decrease in fat has seemed to make a difference. I have always thought I had screwy metabolism, and now this just proves it. Thanks

I started at about your weight 192. I'm female 65, have a smell frame and work at a desk all day but try to be fairly active when I'm not at work. I had to trim my calories down to averaging 1200 ...

Right, I wouldn't pay anyone. Find a plan that works and stick to it. There are lots of books at the library. Track your food on FS.
