how many cals per day?

for those that are doing the low calorie diet...how many cals per day? I thought 1200 is the usual for dieting. is that right? also, breaking it down it should be 3 meals and 2-3 snacks?

i am doing lowfat with ALLI. it isn't really a lowcal diet, just low fat and 20 mins of excercise per day. according to myalli.com my daily calorie target is 1800, which i can't meet it's just too much. my doc said cutting 200 to 300 per day from what you used to eat will take off weight, but low fat is also heart healthy.

I try to keep my calories within a range of 1000-1480, generally shooting for about 1200. I am doing calorie rotation, so I try to switch it up every few days, like 1200, 1250, 1100, 1450, etc. I'm not strict about it as long as I stay within my calories range though. I keep my fat at about 25 grams a day, give or take a smidge. Whether you want to have 3 meals or 5 meals is up to you, as long as your calorie deficit is low enough you will lose weight, no matter how you brake it up. I like to have snacks, one in the afternoon around 3, and one about 8:30.

Any less than 1200 a day really effects your metabolism. Please shoot for at least that amount. If you are taller than average, than adjust accordingly. But really any less than 1200 cals is shutting down your metabolism.
