The proof is in the numbers. As we all know, the numbers on the scale are not the only ones we should be watching. People talk about inches, but lab tests are important too.

People say Atkins is bad for your cholesterol because they don't understand it. Here are my lab results from before I started Atkins (7/25/07, these results were my wake-up call) and 60 days after I started Atkins (12/21/07) along with the "normal ranges" for my body type. You can't argue with facts. You can check my journal to see my daily menus. I only had 3 "cheat days" during the 60 days I have been on Atkins. Below my lab results you will find my 90 day evaluation results from the gym on December 21st.

Lab Results:

Triglicerides: Normal should be <150. My results before 251, after 85

Total cholesterol: Normal range 125-200. Before 216, after 199

Cholesterol/HDL Ratio: Normal < 4.4. Before 4.6, now 3.9

Cardio CRP (heart risk factor): Normal is < 3.0. Before 8.50, now 5.7 (still higher than I would like but going down)

Gym Results:

Here are the results comparing from 8/31/07 to 12/21/07:

Body Fat %: was 41.0 %, now 24.0 % Now in the "fit" category, YAY! I lost 17% of body fat!

Lost: - 5.6% of my weight

Blood pressure: about the same

Resting heart rate: was 88, now 78

Ab circumference: lost 2.5 inches

Hip circumference: lost 1.5 inches

Thigh circumfrence: lost ~2 inches each

Waist circumference: lost 3 inches

All around improvement. I am really happy, especially with the body fat percentage now being in the "fit" category.

As you can see. Atkins is heart healthy. For those of you who already know Atkins works. I hope this helps motivate you. Thanks to all my buddies who cheer me on.

Way to go!! That is why I think Atkins is sooo awesome. I had the same type of lab results when I had lost 60 pounds on Atkins. I know by using the plan and the support of those who see the value of this lifestyle eating plan, I will be back on the road to health. The weight loss is nice but the older I get, the more I relish and enjoy feeling good. You are truly an inspiration.

i had also heard that from a lot of people after i told them that i am on adkins, but my doctor said that this is a safe diet and he was impressed with my weight loss results so far and after your proof with your numbers it makes me feel a little bit better that this is a safe diet.keep up the good work

Sadly, people have a wrong preconceived notion of what the Atkins diet is. I was talking to my future sister-in-law about it and mentioned that I was eating blackberries. She said something like "Oh, so you're cheating a little then?" Doubt
