WELL LAST WEEK I GOT MY TEST RESULTS BACK FROM SOME BLOOD WORK. I'M NOT TO HAPPY. I HAVE VERY HIGH CHOLESTEROL YUCK!!!! MY DOCTOR PUT ME ON SOME PILLS AND TOLD ME TO GET OFF ATKINS AND ON A LOW CALORIE/LOW FAT DIET AND TO EXERCISE 3 TIMES A WEEK. AT FIRST I WAS SO UPSET. I WAS REALLY GETTING INTO THE ATKINS THING. BUT, NOW I'VE GOT MY MIND SET ON DOING GOOD ON THIS AND GETTING OFF THESE PILLS. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO TAKE PILLS. I ALSO DON'T WANT TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK OR STROKE. THATS ENOUGH TO GET MY BUTT IN GEAR AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I HOPE I STILL CAN LOSE THE 15 POUNDS BY CHRISTMAS. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE. THANKS FOR LISTENING!!!!

I'm always amazed at doctors to where the first thing they push on patients is "take these pills," instead of insisting diet & exercise & stress relief first, then if that don't work THEN maybe take pills. Since you were already doing some form of weight loss program, I think he should have let you continue with that for a while and encouraged you about how the benefits of a good wholesome diet will also help lower high cholesterol/blood pressure, reverse heart disease, etc. But nah! If doctors did that, they will lose big time profits. Hang in there.Cool

Many docs are still under the impression that only a low fat diet will work to fight cholesterol. When I went on Atkins back in 2004 my cholesterol levels were high, which was a problem I struggled with despite eating a low fat diet. After being on the plan for a while my levels dropped into the normal range and they have stayed there since. Of course everyone is different. Some people will have high levels no matter if they eat low fat or not (or on Atkins for that matter). My hubby is one like that. He has struggled with high triglycerides for years and his diet has only had limited success. His levels have improved on a low carb eating plan but he still has to take Tricor. His issues are due to genetics rather than diet alone. Good luck, I hope that you can find a way of eating that helps keep you at your healthiest. Just remember that the meds may be necessary if your cholesterol problem does not respond to diet and exercise.

I like to use a site called www.thedailyplate.com for a food diary. It is very accurate and it gives a total of calories, protein, fiber, cholesterol, sodium and carbohydrates for the day! I've been using it to journal, before fatsecret got the diet calander up and running and it's pretty easy to use, once you get used to it, like most sites. I have been watching everything from calories to carbs (I've been trying to keep my blood sugar under control due to insulin intolerances), and it's been a life saver! I've gotten my bp down and my sugars are becoming very controlled. I have done Atkins in the past and yes, the high fat and cholesterol allowed is not alright with my doctors, not one of them. However, all of them have been for the South Beach diet and encourage it very much.

You have to be so very careful when it comes to your health and things like high cholesterol, sugar, blood pressure, etc. I wish you well, and with your determination, it IS SOOOOO POSSIBLE!! You CAN do IT!! Good luck!! Smile

thanks for listening and all. i'm kinda likeing the new diet. i went out and got some new foods mostly all no fat. its been good so far. haven't found anything i don't like yet lol!!!! made a big pot of soup today for my lunch next week. i love soup. eating more fruit. something i didn't get on atkins. it might take me a little longer to lose the weigh i want but, i will do it.hopefully i can get off the pills soon. well good luck to you. keep up the good work Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
