I'm doing the GI diet, its really healthy and so far I'm losing almost 5lbs a week(but I cheat and eat things I'm not really suppose to). You could still do a fast once a month or so too.

Gotcha, well I would recommend the GI diet, it doesn't feel restrictive, I eat lots and its all healthy food. Its also recommended for diabetics because the secret to this diet is maintaining a stable blood sugar level. Rick Gallop developed it and he was the president of the Heart and Stroke foundation of Ontario for ... I think it was 15yrs.

I work in a call center so for 40+ hrs a week I sit and do nothing. I have a belly dancing class on monday nights for an hour and a half. Besides that I don't do much. I plan to kick it up once my friend stops sleeping on my couch so I have room to do my tae bo movies(they are alot of fun and you can do them at your own pace). I don't have a car so I do have to walk/take the bus everywhere but other than that I don't exercise much. Have you tried listening to a diskman/mp3 player when you walk? I do when I go to the bus stop and what not, it makes it more enjoyable and easier to ignore all the other people

Did you know that weight training will speed up your metabolism? Try lifting some light weights(or big cans like Campbells Chunky soup cans or the big spaghetti sauce cans)while watching tv. Do it slowly and a variety of arm positions(can find those on the internet)and prolly every other day or so. And when your comfortable with that try other things. I find alot of interesting fitness/diet suff at Sympatico.com.

i'm also worried because i've gone through a lot of emotional stress and mental anguish, for the last 8years, the worst of it was when i lost my daughter. I'm an emotional eater and i think that i am at the point were i need to relearn portions and acceptable amounts of food that i should be eating. i'm at 315 Lbs the fatest i've been in my life. i went from 250 to 315 in about 1 month (part of it was the pregnancy)

Tae bo is awesome. I love that Billy Banks has a 8min workout that you can fit in before work
I would recommend reading his book on the diet. He explains the difference in the types of fats, carbs, protiens ect. (thankfully in very simple terms). And he talks about cravings, snacking and those of us that eat when stressed or depressed. He breaks all foods down into 3 categories: red light, yellow light, green light. Just like traffic lights
Stay away from red(white flour, sugar), moderate yellow(whole grains, startches ect.)and all the green you can handle(which is pretty much every fruit, veggie, lentil, chicken, fish ect). Its a bit to get used to at first. You have to change breads and pastas to the whole grain types and what not is it is quite a change fo most of us. But its worth it. I eat lots, and I snack all the time, yet in my first week and a half I lost 6 pounds. I'm worried about my health, and reading about alot of diets out there that give you supplement foods and make you cut out one food group or another sound crazy to me. It can't be healthy for you and they never keep the weight off. But this is more like a lifestyle change not a diet.
I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. I can't believe how hard that would be. But kudos to you for acknowledging that you need a change and actually going for it. Thats the hardest step. Always remember to keep positive, your not alone and everyone on this site is here to cheer you on.

Getting active will help your mood and stress too. I read a study where they found that exercise works a higher percentage of the time in increasing mood than any pill on the market. Amazing, huh!
Love the food that loves you back.
Take it one day at a time!

Erm, no-one else has mentioned this, but personally I don't think it's safe for your body, healthy or wise to lose so much weight so quickly. It's possible to lose that much in the first week, but it will be mostly excess water.
1. You will have no energy
2. You will not be eating enough to stay healthy
3. If you lose weight this quickly, you will probably pile it all back on with more besides.
4. It has taken you a long time to put the weight on. You also need to lose it slowly, to give your body and skin time to readjust to it's decreasing size.
5. If you lose weight slowly, at a sensible rate of 1-2lb weekly, by eating healthily and taking gently exercise; it will promote life-changing habits that will last.
Inside me there's a skinny woman screaming to get out, but I can usually shut the bitch up with chocolate.

Take it slow. No one expects you to suddenly jump on a treadmill for half an hour. Try going for walks. You can even use housework as a starter, put on some upbeat music and do as much housework as you can. Even if that means you have to vaccuum your carpets everyday
Its also helpful if you can walk to your destinations rather than drive. Change up your walks, go different routes and increase the time every couple days.
As for food, the best thing you can do is get all sugar and junk food out of your house. You won't be as tempted to eat it if its not right there for you. You should also go get lots of veggies and fruit, and then try to snack on those instead of the junk food. And remember to drink lots of water.
Good luck!

(i looked terrable and HUGE!!) i posted the pictures to my fridge and cupboards and a picture of me in grade 10 when i was nice and slim. i'm hoping that seeing me as i truly am will help remind me of what i dont want to be.
