I read an interview with the guy who created SBD (whose name is escaping me right now) and that question was asked. He said that no, he does not encourage keeping a food journal because counting and keeping a food journal is not "real life" practical, and that the thing about SBD is that it fits with real life. But I would think it's just a matter of personal preference - some people might like to spend the time journaling their food. Personally that's why I quit Weight Watchers...I got really sick of all the counting and journaling.
That is totally understandable, the system has to be sustainable. Six months ago when I made the original post, I thought that in my case it wouldn't be; so far, I've been wrong. And, I can't stress how important (to me) writing things down has been.
