I have coffee once a day in the morning with a sweetner and it doesnt seem to take me off track. I have cream instead of milk cos i cant take it black. I cant eat the low carb protein bars without stalling but seem ok with a little sweetner and no more than one glass of diet drink occassionally.

There is some debate about the caffeine and while it really didn't effect me (black coffee here), it has with my friends. Big thing tho is aspartame ... I would try hard to stay away from that. In my experience, it knocked me out of ketosis every time.

I had the same question with aspartame...some peoples bodies will recognize this substitute sweetner as a carb. However, I limit myself to one a day or 3 a week and drink water the majority of the time and i have continued to lose weight...

Yeah, while I am not a huge fan of the taste, I did Diet Rite all the way during induction. It's alright ... not my drink of choice ... but it was also good mentally for me because I like my Diet Coke, and by not drinking Diet Coke and switching to Diet Rite with it's different ( kind of "biting" ) taste, it reinforced in my head that I was on a hardcore mission of a diet. ... if that makes any sense Smile

Although you're not supposed to have things like Diet Coke when you're on Atkins, I always have. It can slow your weight loss, but it has never made much of a difference in mine. Like you, I need my caffeine in the morning. If you want to stop the diet drinks though, I have a suggestion: I switched to Iced Tea, sweetened with Splenda. From there I was able to "step down" to no caffeine at all. It helped reduce the headaches I normally get when I don't have caffeine.

Hey there!

I usually treat diet drinks like I would a glass wine...one glass with my dinner is enough. My drink of choice is plenty of water, and maybe with a bit of lemon. Wink

Hi, there are a few different drinks you can have diet coke do a coke zero which has nothing in it at all, they do decaffinated diet coke, and if you get some lighterlife ct clements lemon low carb powder off ebay and but half a spoonful in some sparkling water, you get lemonade with no ruining of your diet!

Diet Rite and Waist Watchers are both sweetened with Splenda. Being a former Diet Coke äddict" (DC free for 2 years come this August 1) ....or is it recovering Diet Coke addict? ...nothing ever really takes the place of DC...giving it up was the most difficult thing...it does get easier over time, though.

Now, I drink lots of water, Tazo Zen Green Tea, Diet Rite Tangerine, and Walden Farms zero calorie chocolate syrup mixed with sodium free seltzer for a delicious pseudo-eggcream.(all sweetened with sucrolose).

Good Luck

Diet Rite doesn't have sodium, which every other diet and regular soft drink does have. You won't be as likely to retain fluid with diet rite compared to others.

I try to limit my diet drinks but my husband lost 50 pounds on Atkins and drinks probably 5 cans of diet pepsi a day. Caffined is supposed to increase your hunger that is why you are suppose to limit it, however, I drink iced tea with caffine to keep me going.

I heard that diet sodas were worse for you than regular soda because of the sodium and certain chemical that if taken over a period of time could cause brain damage. I was an avid pepsi drinker now I drink diet pepsi and water.Very Happy
