Hi,
I just want to know if it is possible to lose weight without doing any physical exercise? Physical exercise is very painful to me.

Thanks

Your diet is what will make you gain or lose weight. Exercising builds muscle and the more muscle you have the more you burn. But to be healthy you need to really do both.

If it's actually painful then start with the diet, start losing and hopefully without the extra lbs doing exercise will get easier.

How is it painful? Is it your joints, your muscles or do you overdue it and hurt then?

Physical exercise isn't a necessity to lose weight, you just need to keep calories in less than calories expended and possibly also need the right balance of fat/carbs/protein depending on your metabolism. BUT...if you can do any kind of exercise at all no matter how little, there are big benefits for you in both losing weight your health. Plus the more you do and can build up to being able to do, the less painful it is likely to be, as long as what is causing pain isn't some type of chronic debilitation that will not be helped by exercise.

I've started swimming laps at the YMCA, since I was told that I shouldn't workout in the weightroom, (I had back surgery) and I feel like so much better, my back doesn't hurt anymore!

I've been unable to walk on my treadmill since I started my diet 2 months ago and I've lost 14.5 pounds. I record calories in and calories out in FS. I seem to loose when my negative calories exceed 1000. There are times when I get very hungry but I convince myself that hunger is a possitive thing and it means I'm loosing weight. To help the weight loss I do chair exercises I find on YouTube, or I just sit in the chair and exercise on my own. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Agree with Mummydee. I used to hurt all the time, on constant OTC pain killers with prescription ones mixed in here and there. Lost 60#'s started exercising, only a rare pain day, now, most are pain free. I never dreamed I would ever quit hurting.

Years, many years ago, I lost 30 pounds in a month living on a diet of orange juice and 2 baked potatoes a day. It was stupid but I was so wrapped up in life that I rarely gave food a thought. It was quick and easy but very unhealthy. Like many others here have said that it's good to get both. I did lose some weight on Atkins induction phase without very much exercise but I was strict about the diet though. Good luck! Hope that you'll be pain free soon!

YES weight loss is 80% diet and 20% movement .... until you get close to where you'd like to be, focus on the intake! The gym is about body composition and not about the scale once the majority of the weight is gone.

It is possible to loose weight without exercise. If your body is in ketosis, it merely means that your body is using fat for energy. In the past I tried a diet called Ideal Protein. In stage one of this diet, you are not to exercise more than a yoga class or some walking at a normal pace. There is a list of food given to you of what you can eat. The foods on the list are a lot of low or no carb foods. By following the format, it puts your body into ketosis and you get to a point where you really are not craving food much. The beginning is hard but after 5-7 days the body adjusts and it gets easier. The other benefit to this diet is that you don't burn muscle you only burn fat. Hope this helped you!

Starisi, being in ketosis is not a good thing you can harm your kidneys among other things. Being a diabetic my goal is to stay out of ketosis.

I years ago lost alot of weight while in college. I couldn't afford food and went without. I lost but my doctor told me that my body also needed to be toned (as well as fed of course) so you can loose ... but to be healthy it is good to exercise.

@swthart291......dont confuse ketosis with ketoacidosis,, saying that being in ketosis is a bad thing is a generalized statement to be more specific its bad for people with diabetes, just curious to know what are the "among other things"

this diet if your a diabetic can result in ketoacidosis which can result in death. If it works for you that's great but it is not a diet for diabetics nor should it be used long term and without doctor supervision. and better watch your

I think you're a little confusing in your post... what do you mean by 'THIS DIET' the original op asked if he could lose weight without exercising and i'm kindof lost how it melded into a thread about ketosis good or bad? Starisi is the only one that mentioned a low carb diet and going into ketosis. which does work for many, myself included, but whatever the op decides to do the ultimate answer is , yes, you can lose weight without exercising.

mummydee was replying to Ibiza122 and Starisi sorry you got confused. Starisi was saying that the ketosis diet was a good one for fast weight loss and I disagreed based on having diabetes. there is no one size fits all diet. and yes you can lose weight without exercise but it is slower to come off. hope I am now clear with everyone.

Thanks for the clarification ... maybe in future, when you're answering a specific post you could use the "QUOTE'' function.. On the top right corner of the post you are replying to is a 'Quote' button, hit on it and then it will show up in the message box. Add your reply to it.

sometimes we think we're going to be the next post and it's obvious but sometimes 5 or 6 people can respond to the original op post and so your response is then # 7 and lost in meaning.

cheers Laughing

It IS possible to lose weight without physical activity Smile If it is too painful that you just can NOT be physical, then be aware of what you pass over your lips. What goes in our mouths WILL show up on the body. As with any kind of machine, certain products are better for it than others.YOUR body IS a machine, what YOU have put into it has resulted in how it performs. To reverse the damage that has been done,YOU must decide that YOU will take BETTER care of it(you asking for advice can be a step toward taking better care of it--FOLLOWING well informed & accurate knowledge can be YOU putting one foot in front of the other on your road to recovery) Smile I wish YOU well by being well informed!
