I am in that very same boat. I only had 39lbs to go and then I just fell off. Now, I am back at 53lbs to go. Nevertheless, I need to move forward. I'll support you!!!

Don't give up on losing those lbs... it can be daunting, but the results will be worth it! I've got 22lbs to go and it is the slow, steady work that will get you there!

I'm not at the start of my journey, but my weight loss goal was to lose about 40lb (I was ~170lb at the time about a year and a half ago, then I inexplicably started losing weight gradually before learning I was pregnant with my second child.) If you'd like I can try to offer accountability and encouragement. Having experienced both a significant weight gain (40lbs in ~ 6 months) and weight loss (20lbs over the course ~6 months on two separate occasions), I know that starting out it is easy to be discouraged when there doesn't seem to be much return/ progress in terms of energy investment. So, if I can help you overcome some motivational inertia, I'm willing to to put forth the effort on my end. Good luck!

I will be happy to support and encourage you along this journey. As you said I could really use a buddy too. I have been going to the gym for almost 2 months now and have not lost a single pound. Everybody says that you build muscle before you lose weight, I just want to lose a pound and I will be happy.

I am calorie counting - I use the Noom smartphone app where I log all of my meals, snacks, exercises, and my weight.
Which this app, it changes my RDI everyday which has really helped with losing weight.

I will support you. I wish I had someone in my area for a workout buddy. It would be fantastic. I am counting calories and not excluding anything from my diet. Excluding foods will make you want them even more. But the stuff that I shouldn't eat I just eat a bite of. My goal is 15lb by June. 15lb in 3 months is a goal I want to achieve!! Good luck!

Hi- Im new here but not new to trying to lose weight. I lost a total of 84lbs last year, and have a further 40 odd to go this year (yes 8 and a half stone 119lbs total!)
I use weight raining and a sensible diet to help do this with some HIIT cardio. I go all out in the gym on my days on and rest well on my days off. I don't starve myself and if you take a look at my food journal I eat well (Within my calorie range, a varied diet and to my macros)
I've learnt a great deal about food and nutrition the last 12 months and as long as you are eat what your body needs to function and create a calorific deficit through some kind of motion (move more!) you will lose fat.

Biggest mistake I see and hear people making are going on "fad" diets- make sure you get enough protein healthy fats and Complex carbs and fibre to maintain a healthy intake and it really doesn't need to be any more complicated than that (special dietary requirements aside)

Most of it is "in our heads", you need to want to do it to make it happen. we didn't put 20, 40, 100lbs on overnight, stands to reason we wont lose it overnight, slow and steady is the key to avoid rebounds that put us in a worse position than our starting points!

Not trying to teach people to suck eggs or come across as a know it all, but I've spent a long time being very overweight, I made it my mission to learn as much as possible to help myself really.

Good luck in your quest, this is a great place to be. If I had found this site when I started I honestly believe I would have "lost more" this last 12 months, the way you can meal plan and track your macros etc is fantastic.

Hi Sarah

Sorry, "macros" is short for "macronutrients" which are found in all foods, the main ones being Protein (Pr) Carbohydrates (Ch) Fats (F) and Fibre (Fi)

Basically you find your calorie intake needs for the day (averaged over a 7 day period) to include any extras that you may burn (Gym, cardio, walking etc) and then subtract 500-1000 calories a day to work out fat loss (3500 calorie deficit is 1 pound of fat- 7000 = 2 pounds so over 1 week that's 1000 less in defecit to sustain a 1-2 lb fat loss)

Ok so lets say I need 3400 calories a day to support what I do daily and my Gym sessions, subtract the 1000 and im on 2400 Cals a day.

Then we need to dissect the calorie total into Pr Ch F-
Pr 1g = 4 calories
Ch 1g = 4 calories
F 1g = 9 calories

Now there are loads of different opinions on what happens next- for me I use this

pr .8g-1g per lb of bodyweight
f ..4g per lb of bodyweight
Ch - the remainder

so take my 252lb (for me two weeks ago)

Pr = 252g
F- 100.8g
Ch- 118.7g

I then plan my meals based on these numbers- hence "tracking my macros"

Using this food journal makes it ridiculously easy for me to do this and have quite a flexible diet- as long as I "hit" my macros.

The worst sin I see people do when trying to lose weight is simply not eating enough!

Sorry- addition for Sara-

Another simple equation is the 3rd 3rd 3rd- that's a third of your calorie intake is made up from a 3rd of the main macros, hence-

Take your Calorie number (using the calculator in here)
For arguments sake its 2000 per day

2000/ 3 = 666.66 / 4 = 166.66 = 166.6g protein
2000/ 3 = 666.66 / 9 = 74g fats
2000/ 3 = 666.66 / 4 = 166.66 Ch

Lots of people use this and adjust the carbs/ Fats ratio as they go along to increase decrease fat loss.

I recalculate my totals every 6 weeks.

Ketosis Achieved
Headaches and dizziness are signs that you need more salt. Try having a cup of broth or bouillon morning and night, that's usually enough. The doctors say adaptation to keto takes 2 to 6 weeks.
