I would not trust either number, but 400 seems to be closer to reality. If I burnt all the calories FS tells me I burn I would have lost myself completely many years ago. I use stationary bike daily and mine shows less than 300 cal per hour of rather intense exercise. Never was able to reach "moderate" speed of 13 miles per hour and keep going at this speed for an hour.

fatty ed: Many calculators are out there; I entered a 235 pound cycler at 10-12 mph at 1 hour and found 640 calories. Here is the link http://www.bicycling.com/training/weight-loss/cycling-calories-burned-calculator You may want to consider reading how the calculator provides the output, does it net your BMR for the hour, etc. Keep finding what works for you and what you enjoy for exercise and best of luck.

THANKS FOR THOSE GREAT ANSWERS...ITS NOT WHAT EXERCISE I ENJOY AT THIS POINT BUT RATHER WHAT I CAN DO TO GET SOME AEROBICS...I WENT FROM 30 YEARS BEHIND A DESK TO HARD WORK OUTSIDE ..ON MY FEET ALLDAY AND LIFTING HEAVY PLANTS AND TREES..BECAUSE OF MY WEIGHT I HAVE TWISTED MY ANKLES REPEATEDLY. GOT PLANTAR FACIITUS IN BOTH FEET AND MOST LATELY DISLOCATED MY CUBOID BONE IN ONE FOOT....SO SEEMS LIKE SWIMMING OR BIKING ARE MY ONLY CHOICES...IM HOPING WITH THE WEIGHT GONE I CAN DO THINGS I REALLY ENJOY.

"Stationary" may play a role in this. Outside avoiding cars and dogs as well as looong hills is a bit different, even though you occasionally get to coast and stop at intersections.

i ride my road bike on a trainer and use a program called zwift..it in turn transfers the stats to strava..i noticed that the stats i get from strava are usually about 1/3 of what fs says...and i trust the stats from strava more then fs...fs seems to over compensate for the numbers in their exercise part of the plan...my 2 cents..

Estimated Calories
I've read in several different places that 1lb of fat equals 3,500 calories. If you want to add one pound in a week then add 500 calories above your exercise amount per day.

Yes, that is true, but for some interesting reading, google "Why the scales lie" and learn the myths and truths about what the scale is really telling you.
