Building muscle increases your metabolism even when you are resting.

I apologize, that was not helpful at all.

I'd say, stick it through, many older people have lost on this site.

Realize that a year or two to take off what took a lifetime to put on is a pretty good deal!!! (that's what I tell myself!)

Mother Nature is a B*tch... You will gain weight faster and lose it slower, you will have hair sprouting in places that are forbidden and then just for fun she'll give you 10 lbs for hitting menopause and there's no giving it back!! lol
So take control now and learn your body and what makes you gain and lose. for me it was eliminating grains .
Eliminate processed foods and especially sugars and eat clean real foods. Its hard for the body to gain weight while digesting all those wonderful macronutrients.

I'm 64. Not sure if it speeds metabolism some info says it does but no expert. It has sure helped me to do some exercise in the morning, even 15 minutes helps my whole day. I try to walk every morning before work to kick start my day. I have more energy and a better outlook on the days that I walk. I leave for work a few minutes after 6:00 so early morning gym would have to be too early for me.

Enjoy the summer and the sunshine.

I had to completely change my diet which was nearly all carbs. Dropped processed/refined carbs, increased vegetables, switched from fruits to berries and lean meats and believe it or not increase your fats! Omega 3 fat thru foods and supplements--even primrose oil, fish oil, seeds, nuts, avocado, coconut oil. Don't work your butt off in the gym but do some hand weights in addition to some full-body exercises to build muscle (squats, lunges). Walk too but don't do tons of cardio, it's a waste of time.

Strength training per my Ortho doc is a must if you have any family history of osteoarthritis or arthritis. At least 2or 3 times a week.

Enjoy the summer and the sunshine.

MrsPackrat, you might want to change your goal weight to see if that helps it track better, since it looks as though you have already reached the goal you started with. That might be why it stopped tracking properly.

Try Virgin Coconut oil. Has a lot of health benefits and helps with weight loss as it speeds up metabolism.
Read up on it.
I put two tablespoons every morning in my coffee and it makes it taste so good. And it helps with getting your good fat in that we all require on the Atkins diet.

I did but it still shows my old goal weight. My new goal weight which is 135 so I haven't got there yet. It's all still wrong.

Working out is good for the metabolism and only you can decide the amount of time you spend on it. It also keeps you more flexible and hopefully less achy than being sedentary. I ride my recumbent bike 1 or 2 hours a day bc it works for my weight and you can check my weight loss record.

Hmmm I haven't read tablet supplement having the same affect. I take the actual virgin coconut...In my opinion it's better for you. Tablet form they would have to add all these things to it to get into a power/tablet form.

Keep drinking lots of water, get enough sleep, and manage stress. They aren't specific to being over 40 but help your metabolism at any age.

I know for me I struggled with getting the scale to move at all. I mean I even did HCG for 37 days and lost 10 pounds didn't cheat one time. When I started Atkins NANY I would loose two pounds go up one. So in month I hadn't really lost anything. Gave up went on vacation came back, Started all over again, there is no sugar or grains of any type in my diet the only thing I do use is sugarfree hazelnut coffee syrup. I workout and so far I have lost 10 pounds in the same amount of days. I also workout daily. Drink 5 liters of water. Staying in ketosis will help kick your metabolism in gear. Not sure how much you have to loose you might just be a slow looser. You body will release the fat as it chooses up to you to be patient and allow it to do its job. This isn't a quick fix, but a lifestyle change to fix what we have done to our bodies over years.
