When I first started here, I was saving 200 of my daily calories to have after dinner snacks: almonds, peanuts, raisins, etc. After a couple of months, I started drinking a green tea after dinner. Now I stopped the after dinner snacks by drinking decaffeinated tea and chewing sugar free gum. On the rare occasion that I have an after dinner snack, I never eat anything that has flour in it. If I am truly hungry, I will choose cucumber or celery or a baby carrot. Low calorie snacks will not mess up your weight loss efforts!

So my way won't work for everyone, but if you can convince yourself that hunger is your friend, all the better. Wink

I used to think that I couldn't sleep unless my stomach was full. I joined the "Nothing to eat after 7:00 pm" challenge and found that I could sleep with no problem. The first time is maybe hard, but, theoretically, if you do some type of exercise during the day or just take a walk, you will be tired enough that sleep will be easy. Smile

Cardio really drains your glucose, it then drives you to get to replenish the glucose. I used to come home from spinning class and eat half the fridge. You may want to try dumping the cardio if you are only using it for weightloss. What's more important is the weights which keep your muscles in great shape. If you really want to do cardio, try intervals for about 15 minutes but there's no need to do longer than that. Then you will find you won't crave lots of carbs and your hunger won't be out of control after a workout.
this damn tracker below hasn't been right in months! My current weight is 137!

I have a bit of a buffer in my RDI just in case i get hungry at night. Even then i always go for something thats going to "last" for me so that im not hungry an hour later. Nuts and cauliflower (raw) always seem to do the trick.

we eat dinner around 730-8 pm so by the time we eat and watch a show - its bedtime and we are still fairly full from dinner and don't have time to snack.. (we both work and then have to get kids to bed so its less stressful to eat after they are in bed)... could you move your meals out? later lunch and later dinner?

Well I'm more of an aspiring bodybuilder....so whenever I get hungry I grab some low fat proteins (eggs, chicken, ham, Turkey, tuna, or a protein shake). It both helps fill me up & build muscle mass at the same time. Plus most people find it difficult to gorge themselves on these types of foods.

Here's some crazy advice- if you're legitimately hungry, sometimes it's not a bad idea to eat more. I absolutely have days where the same amount of food that I usually eat doesn't fill me up and other days when I end up dropping something that I had planned to eat because I don't need it. Some flex in your calorie count isn't going to hurt you as long as it evens out over the course of the week.

I also save some extra calories for dessert/snack in the evening after dinner. It's a myth that eating at night is a bad thing- it's only bad if you're eating MORE calories. If you incorporate that snack into your calories, it's fine.

I have two night time eating habits - small snacks after dinner and getting up in the middle of the night for water and will eat something. I've done this my entire life.

I've tried to break the habits multiple times with no success. I've finally determined that I might as well work with it. I allow for a couple small, healthy things after dinner - generally fruit or greek yogurt. Some nights I just don't want anything and end up eating fewer calories that day than planned. But planning for the calories and planning a specific healthy thing to do with them seems to be working better for me than fighting it.

Great, Vickie! As has been stated on these forums many times over the past few years, folks have to tailor their eating and exercise routines to what works for 'them.' Everyone seems to be a little different, and so long as you are not eating additional calories than you are burning, this seems to be your golden path! In re-reading the entire thread, I do find that I agree with some of Deb's comments as they relate to ME. When I got started, I HAD to have an after dinner snack... but I eat 16:8 now from noon to eight every day and that takes care of my late night hunger. So great that you are making your unique situation work for you.
