So I am reaching the midway point of the 330s and as I reflect on them, because soon the 330s will be no more, I realize how it can be frustrating thinking about how long this journey is. This is especially when losing weight from such a high number trying to go to a low number. Last time I checked my math, going from 406lbs (412lbs really after giving birth)to 180 is 226lbs lost. I mean that's another overweight person that I am losing. LOL!!!

So knowing that I had that much to go, I was almost defeated before I even started. However, I realized that I had to do this for me, my health, and who I want to be in life. I want to look the way I feel. And I always feel fabulous! And I also know that creating mini goals is fun and gives me a smaller number to work with. Such as knowing my husband's 30th birthday is in February. So that gives me about 4 months to get to my next goal. Trying to lose 20 pounds a month, I could be 80 pounds lighter by then. Now, that goal is optimistic, but I like my chances. I believe in me.

So, my point is that sometimes, looking at the overall goal and the time it will take to get there becomes so overwhelming that you defeat yourself before you even give yourself a chance. Don't do that....take it a day at a time....and watch that scale go down a pound at a time. Know that the scale is not the only thing that matters, so going up does not mean it will continue to go that way. Sometimes you have to go up to go down. Just keep at it! Don't stop. The scale eventually HAS to go down. Just bang it against something. (kidding)But Why? Because a year from now you will either be saying "I have lost 100 pounds in a year" or you will be saying "I could have lost 100 pounds by now". Which will you be saying? I know what I will be saying.

Don't think of your entire journey in once huge piece. Think of it as smaller bits, and accomplish those one step at a time.

My wife and myself are in a weigh loss journey. She has a lot of weight to lose and it has always seemed daunting for her. Since June this year she has lost 25 kg's (55 pounds). Since December last year (her heaviest) she has lost 33 kg's (72 pounds). It is daunting when you have to lose so much weight (she wants to lose 90 kg's in total), but she is finally seeing the benefits.

People are noticing and complimenting her. She saw a full lenght photo of herself the other day and she really notice how much weigh she had lost.

I am so glad to see her motivated. If you head is in the right place, anything is possible!

Yes, Congrats to you and your wife. I feel the same way because it takes so long it just feel like you have lost nothing even when you have lost so much. That is because you have to keep going in order to hit that break even point where you start to notice the difference. I have bad weeks and weeks when I want to blow up my scale or throw it against a brick wall or something but I have to just sigh and keep it moving because it has to change for the better one of these days as long as I am doing what I need to.

Lovergirl, your attitude is inspiring. I remember having that overwhelming feeling when I first started out, and it sure was frustrating. I found the most emotional peace breaking my journey into decades. In other words, my first goal was to get under 220. Then, next decade, under 210. Celebrate as you go (without cake!). I got a pedicure, or a new pair of shoes, or a new CD each time when I broke into my "new decades." (By the time I was well on my way, I was rewarding myself with new workout clothes! Talk about irony!) When I hit what I perceived was a BIG milestone (under 200#, 50# lost, under 150#, goal weight), I got a real treat like a facial and massage or something like that. I didn't lose the weight to reach my rewards; on the contrary, I lost the weight for myself and the rewards were like the patches on my girl scout sash.

Congrats! I have a niece who is trying to lose as much as you. She's just getting started. I so want to help her but I only had to lose 40-45 lbs so I feel like I'm coming from a different place. I can give her tips on eating well, calories in/out. I do like the mini goals idea like you did, then it's not so overwhelming. Any other tips I can pass on to her, I'd appreciate it.
