The site says that the Calorie Counter app has an ability to scan barcodes. What about the products that are NOT listed in the data base, and I have sat here and manually keyed in all of the data? Is there a place that I can put the barcode into the database and attach it to that product name/description? Or, is it just lost until someone comes along and tries to update the database on Fatsecret's end?

Many foods I eat were not listed. I added about 20 or more products last night. I would like their barcodes to work also.

You can either:-

Add the details on the PC manually, then scan the bar code and search for your entry and then save it - it will then remember the barcode applies to that product info

or

scan the barcode, and enter the food on your phone. It will then tie the two together, so the next time you scan that barcode it will bring the product up.

How do I fix an incorrect barcode? I know I saw the option on the bottom of my Android screen at one point for a particular item, but this time I scanned a Trader Joe's bread package and it came up as the wrong type of bread. Both are in the system already, but the barcode is attributed to the wrong style. Is there a quick way to correct this?

I use FatSecret on my iphone and the barcode scanner has a sidenote that the "scanner not yet fully optimized for (my) model". Is there a fix for this? I key in the numbers, which works, but would like it to scan.

I have a Droid phone and I can't figure out how to scan the bar code. A Red Line comes up and I hold over the bar code but nothing happens. What do I do??

I make sure the red line is across the whole bar code and then wait until it beebs. It seems to "focus" on the code or something a few to several times and then beebs when finished. Once I got a message that a food was not in the database.

Any possibility of getting this app or a really similar one for Blackberry phones? I know I am behind the times on the whole phone model issue! I am hoping that the rumors are true of Apple opening up different networks for iPhone this fall!

Hey, I'm not sure if there was a specific answer for the barcode scanner thing. I love the scanner on my android, but if it comes up wrong (which it can do sometimes) there is a "Barcode Match" section in the nutrition info that says: This barcode has been matched to [FOOD NAME]. Not Correct? Find Better Match.

Just click find a better match. Then you can search for the correct one and it will solve the problem (unless a different user switches it to something else)

I'm not sure it will connect the "new" barcode with the product, it didn't with me.

Is there a way to enter the UPC code if the scanner doesn't read the code? I've found so far that the barcode scanner on my Hero really struggles with barcodes on jars.

Bump...I am running the app on Android 2.1 - there is no way to correct barcodes as far as I can tell.

Fatsecret, any plans to allow us to edit bad barcodes?

Can you put in bar codes manually just using my PC. I don't have a phone yet.

i have found that it will link the barcode to the new product, but only if the barcode is already in the DB (i.e. if it finds an incorrect product, you can change it to the correct one).

if it comes back with no results found, you can search for the food...but it won't link it to the barcode.

is there any way we can add barcodes so it will remember them in the future?

Just scan the barcode, and when it comes up not finding anything, do your search/enter all the info in, hit save like you're addind it to your diary for that day(even if you're not eating it) and then it is automatically added. Afterwards, you can go back and delete it from your diary and it will still stay in the database. I just added some lemon pepper pasta from Trader Joe's this way.

I'm not seeing any capability to add a bar-code to an existing item in the database from the website - am I missing something?

Also - why are images of foods only shown on my mobile device? I can't seem to find them on the website? I'm surprised at this - it's the first time I've seen a mobile app that has more features than the site it's based on! Razz

Thanks! I manually entered all the info earlier, but it still wasn't pulling up the bar code. So I followed your instructions and scanned it, then searched for it by the name I had entered already, and it pulled it up. Then when I scanned the bar code again, it pulled it up correctly. So I didn't do it quite like you did, but it worked. lol
