Hi guys, wonder if you can help me out. I am new to this and have religiously been entering my food intake, limiting it to 1200 calories per day and increasing my exercise levels but I'm not getting anywhere Doubt Having looked at another post I think I am eating too many carbs but I don't want to do an Atkins style diet as I like my cereal in the morning. Anyone got any suggestions or good tips/recipe ideas on how to keep my carbs down and how many should you have during the day?
Thanks for your help!

I don't count my carbs at all, but I do keep an eye on not going overboard in them because they tend to make me wanna eat more.
Try to avoid sugars and flour - that's a good starting point. Also, a lot believe in limiting "the four whites", IE potatoes, rice, pasta and bread.
Make sure you drink enoug water, make sure you get enough protein and fat.
I hope you find your way, Nicky. Also, make sure that you eat ENOUGH. Don't go way lower than your RDI. Smile

I went from morbidly obese to being the owner of TABDIG - a weight loss coaching service that helps people worldwide losing weight. It's been an amazing journey. From October 4th 2010 to April 3rd 2012 I lost half my body weight - 80 kilos/170 lbs. Since then, I have had two cosmetic surgeries to remove excess skin. I have now quadrupled my strength, gained several kilos in muscle mass, and today I focus on building muscle, optimizing my diet, living healthy and helping people to reach the very same goals. I am stronger, healthier, thinner, happier! If you feel that you need help losing weight, don't hesitate to send me an inbox message.

As someone posted on another thread, I was previously a "carbivore". Cereal and fruit for breakfast, sandwich for lunch (more bread) with lunch meat, dinner was a little meat and lots of pasta, rice, or potatoes. In between, lots of crackers and cookies. I gained a lot of weight eating this way.

A simple thing I did was start replacing those boxed/processed carbs or starches with vegetables and low sugar fruits and berries. I was keeping my total net carbs (after fiber) to about 100-125g daily. Reducing my refined carbs actually gave me a better balanced diet. I think when you eat well (as long as you still don't overeat), weightloss is a nice side effect.

What are carbohydrates? What Makes Them Good or Bad?

Do you know what kind of carbohydrates you’re eating right now?

Carbohydrates play a major role in our lives. They’re primarily energy givers; a source of food for most living organisms, including humans. They can exist for a long time as stored food. They function effectively as cellular membranes of organisms and their components.

I found this article helpful , if you have time try to read this for more facts about carbo:

Try going to the following link and filling in their questionnaire

http://caloriecount.about.com/tools/calories-goal

It'll give you an idea of how many calories you are supposed to be eating and how many carbs, protein and fat you need too.

Thanks for your advice guys, I realised I was doing what mrs packrat said and filling up with rice, pasta etc. I have now tried to switch to fruit and veg more and generally eat more and try and drink enough water(my biggest downfall). Fingers crossed!

And don't forget protein. I eat some with every meal. Protein triggers a hormone to send a signal to your brain that you're full.
