I finally finished my first jar of coconut oil and bought a new one. But this one actually tastes like coconut (which I don't like). My first jar didn't. It didn't have any flavor, just yummy goodness. What did I buy wrong? I threw away the old jar so I can't compare.

Second question. I use this in my morning coffee and to fry the occasional egg. What do you use this healthy fat for/in?

I like to melt coconut oil, butter, unsweetened chocolate together then add some liquid sucralose to make low carb chocolates. You can also add nuts and unsweetened coconut or dip sugar free jello pieces in the mixture.

Yes, I agree with Onedaat, FAT BOMBS! Gonna make some more now. 3/4 c CO, 1 stick of Butter and 1 oz of bakers chocolate with a little sweetener, or not, and chill in either an ice cube tray or a silicone brownie pan. Pop them out and keep in freezer or fridge to keep your fat levels high. You can add other stuff also, like peanuts, peanut butter, unsweetened coconut, etc. Google uses for CO and you'll come up with TONS of uses from deep frying to toothpaste...

I don't like coconut either so was very reluctant to try it, but I figured I could just swallow without tasting. To my shock the one I bought (Vitamin Shoppe Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil) is really tasty and not at all coconutty!!

Personally I love coconut so I stick to the cold pressed virgin brands since they taste more strongly. I eat Nature's Way Coconut Oil-extra Virgin and it tastes very strongly of coconut so avoid that one I suppose.

Omega nutrition makes a brand that has no aroma at all (it's in a black jar). It's a bit pricey.

Joehi-that's what I thought the first time I bought a jar. I really enjoy it with out the coconut flavor. Onedaat-that's the one I bought this time. I'll have to go back out buy a different one. Bbody1972-I find them all pricey!
Thanks for the help everyone.

Hey, what is the benefit for coconut oil? I know it is helpful and purchased some coconut oil pills at Sams. I have been taking them but I am not sure why Smile Also, they seem to give me heartburn. Is that normal?

Alexzwk, I've never taken the pills, so I wouldn't know about that. But I use the "oil" (really is a solid like vegetable shortening) in my morning coffee and the suggestions above to help boost my healthy fat consumption. I feel it jump starts my metabolism in the morning and helps my overall fat percentage for the day. I feel it takes fat to loose fat. Though I have to be careful because DH is actually allergic to coconut so I don't put it in anything communal. If you Google it you will get a lot of the benefits (skin, hair, etc)

If you want to learn about coconut oil look up the work of Dr Mary Enig (a nutritional biochemist http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_G._Enig) and Dr. Bruce Fife. They both have videos on youtube on the topic.

You can find it in most grocery stores. Costco even carries it (at least the one here in Ontario does)

If you want to add coconut oil to your diet, I suppose you need to use it instead whatever other fat you are currently consuming, not together. Im still in two minds, some people think that natural coconut oil is a healthy fat (here is the artcle about coconut oil nutrition facts http://coconut-oil.us/coconut-oil-nutrition-facts-work-for-our-health/) while a lot of people say its very unhealthy.

I buy my coconut oil from trader joe's. When I get back to being able to eat almonds, I dip them in the coconut oil. It reminds me of a almond joy.
