Do you think I will gain weight from this, even if I burned it off?

A simple answer to your simple question, is , in my opinion , no. If you have set your daily intake and its within that, then you will not gain weight.

Isn't amazing how your simple question can role into such conversation?

I'm glad you are aware of what you're putting into your body but please don't get obsessive about it.

Enjoy life, you stated that you're active in sports, good for you, have fun , being mentally happy is very important to your overall health.

I am not sure on this but doesn't an apple contain more than a teaspoon of sugar? This is what you're supporting mummy? Avoid natural foods? Oh, and if you think the sugar in fruit and the sugar in cookies produces extra magical calories in the body please stop.

You don't seem to understand how the body works. The body cannot tolerate much more than 1-1 1/4 tsp of sugar in the blood stream. That is not my opinion, it's fact. If you eat 1 apple and it does have more than that amount of sugar/fructose and you don't have the insulin to quickly remove the excess sugar from your blood then you will have a very, very bad time.

I agree with mummydee that the site you linked to is definitely not age appropriate for a 13 year old. I find it very irresponsible for you to suggest one go exploring there considering the language, sexually suggestive material and other inappropriate things to be found.

Do you work for that site by the way?

OMG, I had an exta large honey crisp apple. Am I going to get fat? Pls respond....

Do you have metabolic syndrome? Do you have insulin resistance? What is your glucose tolerance? Do you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes? What is your blood glucose level? Have you eaten lots of other sugars and carbs today as well? Have you eaten within the past 24 hours? 12 hours? 6 hours? 1 hour? What is your circulating fatty acid level? Does your liver function correctly? Does your pancreas? All of these things are relevant to how you process sugars and carbohydrates.

In my opinion being fat isn't the problem, fatness is a symptom of the problem. One of the symptoms. There are plenty of unhealthy skinny people with screwed up blood numbers.

Personally I don't think you should hijack this thread to continue your anger fueled, misinformed crusade against science. If you want to discuss the issue more then you should come to the thermodynamics thread rather than hijacking this girl's post.

I would hope you would remove the personal attacks and more importantly, the link to the site with pornographic material from the child's thread.

I would also appreciate it if you would (come to the other thread so as not to side track this one) and answer the question I asked earlier. Do you work for BB? You certainly do try to lure a lot of people away from FatSecret to that site.

Uhhh... You only weigh 50 kilos, and you're aiming for 45? Without knowing anything else about you, I'd say that the fact that you're even on this site shows that you're bordering an eating disorder.

You don't need to lose weight. You're a kid. Go play outside instead. Live an active lifestyle - that'll make you look beautiful and thin. Work out. Build muscle. Eat what you feel like.

Go have your ice cream. In fact, have a large one. Or two. You need it.

If you are 13, you shouldn't be worrying about calories. You should be worry about being 13! Go be a kid and have some fun. Get outside, do something active, and stop obsessing over ice cream. Plan a day with your friends at the pool or on the beach, take your family hiking, or even just walk around the mall. Life is about balance. Take everything in moderation, deny yourself nothing, and enjoy being 13 while it lasts.

I really have to commend this 13 y/o for his or her spelling, grammar, writing style and punctuation. The 13 y/os I know tend to write online with much more lol and textspeak. Their sentences are no where near this clear. This question reminds me a lot of something spacey might ask or want to talk about. He had a similar question concerning bread intake. I think he would be very interested in this topic. I heard he was banned again a few days ago. Again, this young person's spelling, grammar, writing style and punctuation are superb for their age group.

Onedaat, you might be right. And then again, I was more than capable of writing properly at age 13. In English AND Danish. Smile Still, the questions remains to deserve a proper answer, I think. If nothing else then to show the right attitude towards the next kid who finds FS via google and want so shrink until she vanishes... :/

Telling a 13 yr old "you're a kid" is not what she needs to hear. While i totally agree with the advice, she is 13, not a child, probably going thru hormone changes and all kinds of confusing thoughts going thru her mind.
I agree that she shouldn't be worried about calorie count or her weight but the fact is, that she is already there. so being condescending is not going to help her.
I have worked with parents of 8 year olds that have a bad body image already. You have to learn to work with the psyche not just spew dieting facts and tell them to run along and play.

I agree mummydee to a certain degree, but 13 is VERY young. And a website like this is not a place for a young person. Nobody here is qualified to give advice to a child, especially if the person in question has already or is starting to develop issues of a nature that require professional guidance.

Nobody here is a nutritional expert, as much as some people fancy themselves to be. whatever they choose to do themselves is their own business, as they are adults. To visit that upon an impressionable young person, is irresponsible and potentially harmful.

I definitely agree with you mummydee, that the psyche is generally a greater issue (not just with children, but with adults also), and therefore just to "spew dieting facts" (Smile ) can in the end be causing greater harm then good.

Mummydee, I made no attempt at being condescending.

I do, however, believe in stating my opinion in a clear and easily understandable language that a kid (which you are, at 13) would understand.

Getting the message across is a lot more important than whether someones feelings got hurt, IMO.

I did a fair attemt of counter balancing all the weight loss advice that is tossed at her. I found it MUCH more needed to mention to the kid that there might be an eating disorder lurking. The kid won't see that if nobody mentions it.

You may have a different approach. Go ahed and take over from here.

Dear Gabrielsins,

Please do have that ice cream (1 scoop) or a cookie or a small piece of chocolate, and don't deprive yourself of life's little luxuries while you still can. You're 13, and eventually in life you'll have to start worrying about sugar and high blood pressure and all the other sickness that might crop up, then the types of food you eat will have to be strictly controlled.

Firstly, you're not overweight and I'm assuming you're not in desperate need to lose weight for health reasons, merely vanity purposes (which is completely acceptable). But don't lose your childhood, teenage years in the run for it, and obsessing over weight issues.

I'm proud that at this age you have already learnt to count calories. I wish I did. And since you have the basic tool necessary for some minimal weight loss, just count your calories, eat healthy as much as possible and if you must have something unhealthy once or twice or 3 times a week, just keep it within your calorie limit, and you'll do perfectly fine. I have lost weight (of course, at age 13, losing weight was much easier), by just eating limited food, which included lots of unhealthy food. So to answer your question, no, a little bit of ice-cream won't cause much harm.

No one said it was the ads, but thanks for the insult mwessinger. The issue is with the threads themselves. Check out the MISC forum which is labelled as for "TEENS" on BB. You will see threads like "Straight Porn Does Nothing For Me Anymore" followed by submitted lesbian porn. Or "Just partially fapped to "Avatar Porn" followed by Avatar porn and discussion. There are numerous other examples.

If you think that is appropriate for your 13 y/o child then by all means let them see. Do the rest of the world a favor though and don't direct a stranger's child to a forum that has threads with those types of pictures and discussions. I think it's pretty insulting to say the problem is I "need to clear my browser history" just because you're unaware about the content of a site that your friend is constantly promoting.

Yes, I would be happy to delete any references I made once we can agree to stop linking to BB. As it is, I think the references are appropriate (temporarily) as an explanation as to why the BB links should be disallowed. Directing young teens to an adult site where the "teen board" is overrun with porn is irresponsible and violates the FatSecret TOS.

Hi, Gabrielsins! I went on my first diet at age sixteen, not much older than you are now, and had the very same fear you're experiencing. I'm here to tell you that it turned out just fine.
I wanted to diet so I would look good in a swimsuit. I counted all my calories in a little notebook I carried around. Then one weekend I went hiking in the park with a friend, and afterwards my friend wanted to get a snack at the park concession stand. I knew I had to stay away from the chili dogs and all that -- but what to order??? I wound up ordering a scoop of ice cream. The whole rest of the day I was kicking myself for "blowing my diet". But on weigh-in day (I weighed on Mondays - still do that!), I found that I had actually lost more weight that week than the previous week! So you should be fine. Hope this helps!

I understand you did not mean to be condescending. But while this exact advice ("You're just a kid. Go out and play" ) has been given to adolescent females here on the forum before, it is condescending. 13 year old girls don't go out to play, and telling them to do that is patronizing. It ignores the realities of their lives in a way that is highly unproductive.
