Speaking from an Atkins perspective, your better off going for Splenda as thats what they recommend in the book.

Some people claim it does. Others claim it doesn't. Others still say it's fine but claim a ton of supposed terrible side effects (most of which when you dig into them are based on claims made 30 years ago and generally dis-proven since but still get bandied about every couple of weeks or so).

So the answer is, maybe but it probably depends more on your personal physiology than a general and even if it's a yes for you it's going to be something transient not "fat".

Studies have suggested that diet soft drinks could even lead to weight gain.....Mary Stoddard says, "It's well documented that excitotoxins like aspartame have the reverse affect on weight. People drinking diet drinks and eating diet food will get more hungry. The FDA no longer allows manufacturers of diet supplement drinks and foods containing aspartame to label them as weight reduction products, but requires that they be labeled as diet drink or diet food. A study of 80,000 women who use sweeteners were evaluated through the Centers for Disease Control. It was found that they gained rather than lost weight using artificial sweeteners."

There are Chemical Poisons Found In Aspartame... It is made up of three chemicals: Aspartic Acid, Phenylalanine and Methanol. Do a web search on these and make your own judgment. I avoid Aspartame at all costs.

Sucralose is actually Splenda.

Sugar Alcohols (which are often used in products labeled sugar free) will raise blood sugar. Dr. Mark Hyman says "that artificial sweeteners are not a solution; they’re part of the problem as they mimic sugar so well that the body produces insulin to metabolize them and might even make you crave food."

My endocrinologist says sugar alcohols are a nightmare. I eat nothing sugar free ever.

I used to drink several diet cokes a day....maybe 5 or 6. I now only have 1, it's my reward, besides I love the fizz and the bite a diet coke has. I know it's not the best, but I have really cut down. Somedays, I go without a diet coke all day.!! It's usually in the afternoon when I need a hit of caffeine.

Try soda water with a twist of lime or lemon in it. Hopefully that will satisy that need for 'fizzy' on the tongue.
Or you can carbonate any other drinks you like with a small machine available now in stores.
If it is a plant, eat it, if it comes from a plant, don't!

Personally I have noticed a weight stall when i add sugar to my coffee, as soon as i switch to sweetners it starts to fall off again. I would say give yourself a week or two using the sweetner and see if it makes any difference to your weight. for me it doesnt i drink 3 cups of coffee a day with 2 sachets of sweetnes on each

Only when I have it in a cup of tea with a Large slice of chocolate cake. Then artificial sweeteners put weight on me. It's not the Cake of course.

Sweeteners like xylitol and other sugar alcohols have very little or any effect on blood sugar therefore no insulin response so fat burning continues. When we have sugar the body produces insulin and fat burning is halted and there is a fat storing effect.

Not generally. There was a brief bit of controversy about artificial sweetners stimulating the body's insulin response and being really no better than sugar but I think that has been disproved. Or it was only one particular sweetner that did it or something. Of course some are better than others and there are health concerns with some of them also. I think the natural ones like Stevia are best if you are going to go down that road. And of course they don't count toward your carb count for the day....
