HOW DO I LOOSE WEIGHT WHEN I HAVE TO BE IN BED FOR 3 MONTHS? MY HUSBAND AND DAUGHTER ARE BRINGING ME FOOD. THEY KNOW I NEED CERTAIN FOOD, BUT SOMETIMES THEY JUST BRING ME WHATEVER. OR!!!! THEY DON'T FEED ME AT ALL, BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT FOODS IN THE HOUSE TO STAY ON MY DIET. I HAVE BEEN IN BED FOR TWO WEEKS NOW. AND SO FAR I M AFRAID I HAVE GAINED SOME WEIGHT FROM NOT BEING ABLE TO EXERCISE. IN SO MUCH PAIN AND ON PAIN KILLERS. HOPEFULLY WHEN PAIN GETS BETTER I CAN EXERCISE A LITTLE BIT LAYING DOWN. BUT STILL VERY SCARED ABOUT GAINING WEIGHT BACK.
ANY HELP, IDEA'S? FROM ANYONE?? OR JUST ENCOURAGEMENT??

THANK YOU SO MUCH

Well, first of all get hubby and your daughter on your side and ask them to bring what you need.
Second, count your calories. As long as you consume less than you burn, you WILL lose weight. You will simply have to consume less, since you burn less.
Third, please turn off CapsLock Wink

I went from morbidly obese to being the owner of TABDIG - a weight loss coaching service that helps people worldwide losing weight. It's been an amazing journey. From October 4th 2010 to April 3rd 2012 I lost half my body weight - 80 kilos/170 lbs. Since then, I have had two cosmetic surgeries to remove excess skin. I have now quadrupled my strength, gained several kilos in muscle mass, and today I focus on building muscle, optimizing my diet, living healthy and helping people to reach the very same goals. I am stronger, healthier, thinner, happier! If you feel that you need help losing weight, don't hesitate to send me an inbox message.

Had a broken ankle. Make it your goal to just NOT GAIN!!!! You should be proud of yourself if you can maintain. Do some light weights and upper body work, you will need it when you use crutches.

You need to have a chat with your husband about how important it is to feed you right while you are confined to bed. Guilt trip him if he is being thick headed and can't see the problem with bringing you 'whatever'. Turn on the waterworks. Whatever it takes to get him to understand the situation.

Take some time to write some notes for yourself about what you want them to bring you to eat. Create a grocery list of specific items for your husband to get at the store. Be as clear as possible about what you want and don't assume that he will know what you are talking about for any given item. Most of the time there are half a dozen items that are very, very similar so it can be very confusing for us to figure out which one is the 'right' one.

Cher Bear is right.

*Don't* try to lose weight while you are confined to the bed. You have a serious injury and not feeding your body enough in the name of losing weight has got to be a bad plan.

If the budget will allow try something like my Micro Wave diet. Have family shop for Healthy frozen meals already prepared. Check with FatSecret or packages for calorie count and order exactly what you need for your RDI. Weight Watchers, Lean Cuisine and others offer hundreds of meals that will carry you thru until you can move. Family is relieved of cooking choirs. Salads are similar, as are frozen vegetables. Take away the family burden of caring for your food needs, make it simple and go healthy frozen for a while.
And as Kingkeld says, lose the caps Smile

There is fresh food from restaurants like Chipotle Mexican Grill, for less price than frozen food (when you consider the quantity). Why would one want to eat frozen food ? It is the same formula whether you are resting or moving.
1. Calculate your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and know the calories that you can eat at maximum from the BMR.
2. Eat healthy, cut on carbs as you are not going to be active.
3. Read up all you can from the internet and count calories everyday.
4. Use this chance of 3 months, to reduce your weight.

With all due respect to seekingbuddh,

Chipotle Mexican Grill, McDonald's, Chinese, Italian are not really the ideal food to eat if you are trying to lose weight. If one is really serious about losing weight, then you MUST count calories, or stick to another successful diet plan. Meals from the Calorie Factories such a Chipotle's, while fresh and tasty are bombs to our calorie count.
My opinion only.

Of course Glaun, i had already made it clear that calorie count is important. With that being said, one could eat healthy food such as CMG, within their calorie count. I am speaking from experience, as i have used this strategy myself. I have not eaten in a fast food joint in a long time, except for In-n-out burger here in CA, which serves fresh food, and i leave out the cheese, spread etc. Essentially calorie surplus = weight gain, and deficit = weight loss, but the calories consumed better come from good sources, rather than popcorn and potato chips.

You may want to read this article about a man who was completely bedridden for years and was able to lose weight, and lots of it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_Uribe

Manuel Uribe weighed over 1300 pounds & was bed ridden. Even though he was bedridden he was able to lose weight on the Zone Diet. His current weight is 440 pounds according to this article. The above link explains more about Manuel Uribe.

Here is the link to the Zone Diet. It has all the information you need to get started with real food. There aren't any gimmicks or extra products you have to buy.

Hubbie and kids need to get on board to help you maintain or lose weight by providing the right foods. Hope you have a speedy recovery. You can do upper body exercises like arm circles and use small free weights. Best wishes-
Stay strong, stay focused.

Start weight 259 pounds. Ultimate goal: 120 pounds.
