I am looking for a fitness tracker. Something I can wear all day long that will track steps taken, distance covered, sleep pattern, and total calories burned (from exercise and normal daily activities). I know to get a more accurate gauge on how many calories burned I need to find something with either a heart rate monitor or something that measures body temperature and/or amount of perspiration. And even though no device will be 100% accurate, I am hoping to get a better gauge of where I sit daily.

I am curious if anyone has any suggestions.

I got the Fitbit Flex about a month ago and I absolutely love it. Check out my journal to read more about it - go about a month back and then read onwards. Smile It's a great tool, and it DEFINITELY keeps me motivated to move even more.

From October 4th 2010 to April 3rd 2012 I lost half my body weight - 80 kilos/170 lbs. Since then, I have had two cosmetic surgeries to remove excess skin. I have now quadrupled my strength, gained several kilos in muscle mass, and today I focus on building muscle, optimizing my diet, and living healthy. I am stronger, healthier, thinner, happier!

I think mine is a fitbit ultra. Same brand as KK just an older model. It is definitely motivating to get you up and moving around. I use a heart rate monitor during my workouts which I think does a better job of determining calories burned. It's small and easily concealed too.

I had a body media unit. It kept # of steps, exertion level, calories burned. I liked it, but you have to pay a monthly fee to connect to their website.

I've heard good things about FitBit and BodyMedia. Can you only access your results with the paid subscription?

I believe you have to have a subscription--that is the really theonly reason I stopped using it. I really liked it.

I have body media advantage armband with a display unit. The monthly fee is around $6, but I pay for a year at a time and got the first year free when I bought it. The display unit gives you steps and calories burned and does not require subscription, but only gives you limited data. For full information, you need the subscription. But it's worth it to me, helped me lose 80 lbs. helps so much with motivation!

I have fitbit and love it. Last week I bought Jawbone Up for my husband.

We are already comparing the number of steps taken and having fun with it. Yesterday he was not happy that I had more steps, so today when I went home for lunch (he works from home), he decided to come out with me and walk me back to my work. He would not have done that had he not been aware of how many steps he is taking. It really is a great motivator.

All data tracking for both fitbit and jawbone up is free. Jawbone was more expensive but it tracks more info (including sleep).

Good luck!!

I love that you two are almost competing your way to health. I love hearing stories about couples that go through this journey together.

If you want a free option and have an iPhone there is an app called Moves. It tracks calories burned, steps taken, running etc. only thing is you have to have your phone with you all day to have it track accurately so in your pocket or I wear mine on my armband etc.

I don't have an iPhone. I had the Nike + app downloaded on my phone and it was absolutely worthless. I would walk a mile on the treadmill, it said I walked 3. I walked 3 miles on the treadmill the next day and it recorded 10 miles.
