calories on atkins

iam new on Atkins diet
in the past i was unlimited from allow list on Atkins like nuts and cheese and chicken and little of fat and i gain alot of weight then someone told me that i should eat 70 % fat 25 % protein and 5%carb
but should i count calories too ?
am 48 kg but am very short girl so i have to lose weight
should i count calories i think it's hard to count calories while u eat aloe of fat??? Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

I have found that the calories are not as important as your fats and carbs. I still have trouble believing I am not eating "too much" fat, but it seems to work. In fact, I seem to loose more when I up my fat intake...it's mind boggling! I plan on doing some more reading ...

Yep. I lose more when I up my fats, too. Nor do I try to reduce my calories deliberately; ketosis leads me to reduce them by reducing my appetite, so I'm fuller on much less yet am fully satisfied with what I eat.

If Atkins is done correctly, following the guideline, cravings vanish as does any excessive hunger--if you pay attention to your body's signals (and don't stuff yourself just because you can or recognizing any emotional eating) you will end up naturally eating less because of this. I wouldn't worry so much during Induction regarding calories. Just keep in mind that doing Atkins/low carb isn't a license to eat irresponsibly.

On Atkins, the amount of protein you need is determined by your height. Do you have the new book? On page 42 is the chart of how many grams of protein you need. I'm 5'6" so my range is 79-165 g or average of 16 oz. of protein per day.

The reason is that 30% protein of 1000 calories is a lot less than 30% of 1500 calories. See? Percentages are relative to total calories.

So if you are going to pay attention to it without counting calories then go by protein grams. You can use 7g per ounce of meat as a rule of thumb and be close enough for most purposes.

Keep your carbs at whatever it is you decided. Eat fat for the rest. Avoid fat sources that are high polyunsaturated fats like soy and most seed oils (unless they are high olec).

What everyone else said...please keep in mind that if you consume more protein than your body needs, you body can and will convert it to glucose and store it as fat, short-circuiting the low carb aspect of your diet. Trust me, I made that mistake many years ago.

Eat low carb/moderate protein/high saturated fat, and you will lose body fat and appetite.

It's a slow and steady loss and that's ok because the scale is moving in the right direction. I don't cheat at all and I drink tons of water (about a gallon and a half a day).

Each person is different and you have to find what works for you. The food ratios are only part of it, though. Be sure you're working out, too, to burn those calories!
