Will losing weight really make you happy?

Health should be the most important concern though many of the younger women may think in terms of wanting to look better. Some may even be "starving themselves to perfection", but most aren't.

Will losing weight make me happy? It is not a cure all for every problem in anyone's life but losing weight will at least improve the quality of anyone's life ,especially when they have alot of weight to lose. Losing weight may not improve the self esteem as much as one might expect so each individual needs to learn self acceptance for who and what they are no matter what size they are. It IS a chance to have better health: knees that don't hurt, reduced lower back pain, lowered blood pressure, less risk for cancer,decreased risk for heart attack and stroke, and a chance for increased longevity. I would be happy with that!

I deeply agree with @thinner120, but steel there's more. It's not just about losing weight, it means a conquer! It means to see what we are actually able to do and this is very good for self steem.
Only losing (or gaining - we have also to think about skinny girls who want some curves) weight is not the key for happiness, but it sure helps.

As long as you understand that the main reason to lose weight is to feel better and be healthier, wanting to look better isn't a bad thing. You just can't become obsessed with it.

People who don't know you think you have always looked that way so dont really comment at all

If you are relying on how you look and the positive feedback to sustain
you in maintaining the effort and discipline required effort to keep the weight off you will not keep it up, which is why so many people
slide back to bad habits and put it all and often more back on!

If you are doing it because your underlying concern is about your health and well being and that simply being slimmer is just a happy side effect of being healthy then you are much more likely to sustain it as you will have then changed from a poor lifestyle to a healthier
better one.. HEALTH is THE KEY to sustaining weightloss once achieved

The ability to be able to take care of my husband as the MS progresses. If I can't take care of myself, how do I take care of him? Extend my life. Hopefully. I just want to be healthy. The above is important, but if I can keep at bay the diseases brought on by eating everything that makes me fat, I've got to go for it. I love living and I love life and feeling good is amazing too.

I'm thrilled with my current weight which I haven't seen since 1990. I don't need to be as slim as my youth. Just healthy. And will stay on my journey, for the rest of my life.
