too much fat?

This is my first day cutting back on carbs. I've noticed that a TON of my calories are coming from fat, it's kind of scary. It also looks like I need to incorporate more protein too. Is this okay? Obviously if I'm not going to eat carbs, I'm going to eat more fat.

Have you read the book New Atkins for New You or done the lessons on They are a wealth of information for beginners on the Atkins program. Yes, you do eat more fat on Atkins; it is a high fat, moderate protein, and low carb program. It is hard to wrap your head around after years of listening to the "don't eat fat" crowd. In the NANY book there is a chart of how much protein you should be eating for your height.

On Atkins Fat is good! I know the numbers look scary but when all is said and done you probably won't eat this level of fat again. I have been using the original Atkins diet and I have lost 50 lbs since March. I do stay on Induction though. I guess people who want to lose more slowly can use Induction for a couple of weeks but I want it gone... so I have stuck to the net 20 carb program.

It depends on the type of fats you are eating....SKIP SATURATED FATS AND TRANS FATS.....instead chose Monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated fats...Avoid saturated fats such as butter, cream and mayonnaise.

Eating carbs limits your capacity of using fat.

Fat is far more satiating than carbs, so if you have cut down on carbs and feel Hungry , then you haven't replaced them with sufficient amounts of healthy fat...a couple of avocado slices, a tbsp. of Olive Oil for cooking, fatty fish.

Also note that complex carbohydrates are considered to be the “good” carbohydrates.

Examples of complex carbs include the fiber in spinach, Romaine, watercress, buckwheat, barley, wild or brown rice, beans, and some fruit. Complex carbs may contain soluble or insoluble fiber
How much and what kind of carbohydrates you eat matter

They have a nutty flavor and a touch of pumpkin's sweetness. They are high in phosphorous and are a good source of magnesium and zinc, iron and copper. 1 Ounce has 8 Grams of protein making them a smart snack or salad addition. Pepitas are already shelled.

seeds are especially high in protein, low in calories and fat. Sunflower seeds have protein & almonds are particularly high in well as chicken, turkey, beans, peas, fish, cottage cheese, and peanut butter, Parm and Romano cheeses

How much of the complex carbs does someone eat. A loose cup of lettuce tells me nothing.

jellycat....a loose cup of lettuce does say's low in calories and salad greens provide many minerals and nutrients...the darker the green the better....good fiber too! One cup of shredded romaine lettuce has 2 grams of carbs and one gram of protein and 4% of your daily value of dietary fiber and about 8 calories a cup. far as how many complex carbs you should have would depend on the calorie range that is recommended to you to lose weight and then eat within the portion of recommended carbs. Yes, Atkins and many other diets start out with 20 net carbs...and then add 5 carbs more until you stop losing to determine your set point for carbs. Diabetics usually consume 30-45 grams of carbs per meal and 15 grams of carbs per snack to stay within carb range...this too is good for dieters and not only diabetics.

Check labels for recommended portions and calorie info.

you should be able to lose 14lb in 6 months easy I would be surprised if you didn't lose a LOT more good luck :)
