i am new, and daily calorie usage for a sedentary female of my age is way too high!

hi, i am brand new, using a different site, but thought i would try this one. however, i don't understand why it says i would burn over 2,000 calories (2047) per day just being sedentary (sleeping and resting). I know for a fact that i burn way fewer calories than that (more like 1700 - 1850) per day, before the addition of activities.

I like this site, but, why is my calories-used-per-day number so high? It should be about 300 calories lower, unless i add activities.

Yes, you are correct that FS seems to over estimate calories burned. We all tend to ignore it - FS may also tell you to eat more calories than you know will work for you. Just tweak it all to suit your personal need.

The BMR (base metabolic rate) should be obtained using "lean body mass" - not your total weight, and you should consume calories with the BMR in mind (along with plenty of other rules). Add activities to the BMR.

I find FS to be pretty accurate in terms of my calorie usage for BMR and exercise and activity

Remember it's 2047 to Maintain your current weight whist being sedentary as soon as you start being active that figure rapidly rises

My weight loss was not were I wanted or expected when I started on here. My hubby had lost over 45 lbs using this so I decided that was the way for me. It gave me 2400 calories a day to start up. I tried that...but it seemed like too much for being on a diet. I then took my hubby's suggestion that he had read that you should take your goal weight and times 10 to get a goal of calories. That meant a change to 1600 calories for me. (but don't go below 1200 calories! you may end up in a starvation mode) When I did that I started losing major weight. Be careful not to lose too fast though. Then you are losing muscle not fat. When I get to a safer weight to start working out I will add that with the same calories and that should make up the difference. Now I weigh too much for my heart to work too hard.

What a lot of us will do is not record day-to-day life activities here like sitting at a desk, driving, etc. By only recording actual exercise, it seems to correct itself.

I gotta pitch in with the "pretty accurate" statement. I've used it all the way on my journey here - pretty much - and it's always worked. I'd go with those numbers until you see for yourself that it doesn't work.

You might be surprised with how many calories you can actually allow yourself to consume. Once you focus on what you eat, you'll be eating a LOT less of the bad stuff. Smile
