Hi Zandra. I'm T or Teresa and am T2 diabetic as well. I agree with the other two posts. How long have you been diabetic? I haven't talked to a dietician, however, I have talked to my Dr. and am currently in a Nutrition Class. I know for a fact that when I was losing weight, my sugar went down, when I started gaining the weight back, they became uncontrollable.
Sometimes it's not just staying away from the sodas, or not eating sweets/junk food, sometimes it's the bread and the potatoes and the things that we grew up eating that are the culprit. One of the things I've discovered about myself is that I can't deny myself something I want, however, I do have to limit myself to just one bite, or just one small piece. For chocolate, I allow myself 1 Fiber One brownie a day.
You can also try choosemyplate.gov they have a lot of good information regarding foods you can eat and should limit yourself on. Just don't give up and stick with it!
