Wow, fredmugs, that was...uncalled for. Why not simply state your own opinion on the specific subject instead of attempting to fill some sort of strange need to feel superior by putting down what has worked and continues to work for many others? Whatever gets you through your day, I guess...
ANYWAY, in response to the OP--as others mentioned here maybe it would help to experiment with the shakes/bars to see how your own body reacts to them (include them in your menu for a week or two, then remove them for a week or two and compare weight loss, any cravings, etc). When I was much younger the shakes/bars didn't effect me negatively at all. Now that I'm older and have to take certain meds I find that my body can't handle them like it once could. I have friends who actually are helped in losing weight by using the products.
The only important thing is how YOUR metabolism reacts to them!
Your response has nothing to do with my point. Atkins claims their bars are 2g (or 3g or 4g) Net Carbs and they are not. They subtract sugar alcohols completely and that is wrong. Not semantics or a difference of opinion. Totally wrong. Like I said - do your own research and don't listen exclusively to what some Atkins book tells you. Oh wait - every Atkins book is different than the last one. Right?
I did NOT state my opinion or offer anything relative to superiority. People do not lose weight with Atkins products like they believe they should be because the Atkins products are not what they claim to be. To further complicate things you have Atkins followers going into the food database on this site and artifically changing the nutritional values of foods that nobody else concurs with.
You are being misled. the fact you don't want to educate yourself further is sad.

Fred... I don't see a single person on here arguing with your point. In fact a lot of us are more or less agreeing with you that Atkins products are not what they claim to be and will make you gain. A lot of us got educated by our bodies and decided they weren't good for us to rely on. And a lot of us choose to not to listen exclusively to the book, and decide to steer clear of processed foods and focus on whole natural foods with one ingredient, which the book actually heavily stresses (newer versions I know nothing about.. I read the book before Atkins products were even born and rely on that).
That being said, there ARE some people who lose weight with these products... that's great for them, but I'm one of those people who can't. There's things that are low carb and healthy to eat, and a lot of low carbers can have, but I can't. Flax seed meal, for one. I can't have that and still lose weight. You must realize that people are fundamentally different and what works for one doesn't work for all. That is why I mostly tell new "cultists" (lol) to experiment if they want but be cautious because MANY people have trouble with them.

^^ I take offense to that. You lumped all of us low carbers together in one group and labeled us all as "cultish" and you were negative when no one was negative toward anyone else in this thread until you said that. It was really uncalled for as a couple of others have already said. Maybe you missed it, but people are offended by your attitude towards other people, not your point.
I was actually reading your original post with an open mind and agreeing with you up to the point when you made that statement. I then decided that it was quite "trollish" to come onto an Atkins thread, on an Atkins forum, and say something like that when you aren't on the Atkins diet yourself. I felt that you deserved no response and you didn't really get any response other than "hey that's rude". Yet you're back and arguing with a wall.... no one is arguing with your point. Thank you for the information, I'm sure it will help a lot of newbies with deciding on the Atkins products. Unless you have an apology for being disrespectful I think you've finished making your point, right?
Good day.

OMG! This needs to end. I agree and I think most intelligent Atkins followers, not 'cultists' agree that the freaking bars/shakes,etc.can help some folks and not others. That's it now let's all nip this in it's bud! PLEASE!!!!

Fred, I'm only responding here since you seemed to address only me in your last posting. I didn't address your point about the bars/shakes because I did not take umbrage to it. I was simply trying to teach you that insulting others in an attempt to bolster your own opinion may not be the smartest tact to take, if you want people to actually listen to anything that you may spout off about. Obviously, by your chosen response, I now observe that this realization only comes with maturity and won't be happening here anytime soon...
Shadow and Yankgal have said anything and everything else that could have possibly needed to be said on this thread at this point, and said it all extremely well. If you feel the pressing urge to respond to any of it, that's your right--just as it's my right to see no further need to respond to anything you may think important enough to say. I'm done with it, have a nice day.

Atkins Bars are sweetened with Maltitol.
While it seems most of the Atkins bars I have in my pantry do indeed have maltitol in them, I have found 2 that do not....Advantage Caramel Fudge Brownie Bar and DayBreak Apple Crisp Bar.
Just FYI for anyone trying to avoid that particular sweetener.

Adding to what thinner said.... the grilled chicken is a blessing. I've taken to marinating boneless breasts overnight then give them a quick cook in a skillet or griddle. I too worked in a school ...

Craving
Well good luck with those challenges. There must be a good reason you feel you can't have just one of the carb, lower calorie beers. I admire your discipline and determination.

weigh in
Good luck! I weigh in every day which has to stop. It is too easy to get caught up in the excitement of seeing the scale drop so much in a week-that is because of water weight I am sure.

Even though fat doesn't count in Atkins, it can cause you to gain or not lose weight if you consume too much. Be careful of over eating this nutrient. ie: cream, cream cheese.
