I have not any of these in TWO MONTHS. One would think if you eliminated just the above mentioned, you would lose weight.
I used to eat Pizza once a week
Ice cream - could go through 1/2 gal in 3 days.
Cake, cookies candy - at least one of them 2-3 times a week. (sometimes daily)
Booze at least 6-8 drinks a week
I have NOT had any of these.
WTH is going on? I am not losing. I have been stuck at a 5 lb loss in two months.
I am about ready to bake a big ole chocolate cake with chocolate icing and a scoop of ice cream.
Thoughts?

I think that many of the things one "hear" about diet just is not true. Maybe if you are thin you can stay thin by doing some of the things you mention but if you have become over-weight you may have to make some really drastic changes. This is maybe one of the reasons most people remain overweight.
So if you want to lose the weight on the Atkins diet for instance the rules of that diet are drastic. And made my dr. Atkins because almost everyone will lose weight if they follow them. But they are pretty radical.
You need to cut down on all carb foods (not just some foods) you need to limit cheese drastically, limit dairy, drastically, limit sweeteners drastically.
Then you probably will see results.
On Atkins you aim at going into ketosis and stay there for fat loss. But to be in ketosis you have to be strict in what you choose to eat.

I am not a proponent of Atkins because I do not believe eating that much fat is good for you in the long run. A std 2000 calorie a day diet is supposed to be 65g of fat, 60g of protein, and 300g of carbs.
When I am focusing on losing weight I try to limit my net carbs to under 100g a day, keep the fat around 50g to 65g, and increase my protein to get to around 1300 - 1500 calories a day. I also do cardio to get my heart rate into the fat burning zone or beyond and I get great results doing this.
I cut out most the things you do and really limit the dairy to some occassional cheese. I avoid salads because (a) they are not filling and (b) salad dressing normally is high in fat or carbs.
Pain is a by-product of a good time.

I am a big proponent of the Atkins diet. I think it reflects natural eating and living more than most of the diets out there.

My first thought...perhaps try a week or two straight of not consuming ANYTHING that contains sugar alcohols. (I noticed some in your food diary...) Yes, I know that they are supposed to be OK on Atkin, but every time I hear someone complain lately about not losing on Atkins, sugar alcohols are the one thing that when the person stops consuming them the weight loss goes back to where it should be. Even if they'd only consumed one item a week before.

Just in general, while some people can lose weight just by making healthy changes to their lifestyle, and many people can lose weight by making changes to their diet (including switching to low-carb foods), many of us need to actively restrict our intake below a certain calorie threshold in order to lose. Sad but true.

Liv001, may I ask what publication year your Atkins book was first published? I ask because that's not what the more "modern" Atkins diet is about, at all...
For instance, you mentioned you need to limit cheese drastically. The book says up to 1/4 lb a day (to me, that's a lot!). Also, the focus is not to stay in active ketosis anymore...unless it is your personal choice to stay in the first 2 week induction period for a longer time.
Just wondering if you have a different Atkins book than I do...

1/4 pound of cheese a day may seem like a lot to you. When I was heavy I used to eat a lot more than that, lol.

Looking over your diet what really stands out to me is that your sodium intake is about double what's typically recommended by doctors, which probably affects your sodium/potassium electrolyte balance. Associated with that is whether you're getting enough water. It also seems like you're consuming a lot of Splenda, which in one Duke study was observed to cause "extreme" damage to beneficial intestinal bacteria, and was correlated with greater weight gain in rat models.

I probably have all books. Except some of the ridiciluous versions the Atins diet came up with right after Dr, atkins passed away
So when I started 6 years ago I used the 2002 DANDR book which I still follow. I think it is brillian
1/4 lbs cheese is around 115 grams cheese - it is a bit but it is not lot compared to what some people think. Some people think Atkins unlimited cheese which it is not
I do not care for the current Atkins either. All they try to do is sell processed foods. Which I think is not going to make anyone be healthy.

Did you know that the sugar industry paid for that study
And that study did not test if normal sugar had the same effect
It was overall pretty lame research
But I do agree that sometimes sweeteners can prevent weightloss
I always recommend cutting sweeteners and eating more fat if people are nto losing

LOL Yeah, I used to eat a lot more than that also. What I was saying is that's a lot compared to just about every other "healthy" way of eating on the planet, so it's not exactly what I'd call limiting, heh. Different points of view, I guess.

We're not here because we're sensible eaters who always do things in moderation, are we? And besides, snacking is the American pastime.

Good to know, thanks for the info! The only books I have are his very first one (that I've had since the late '70s lol) and that current one that you mentioned (and I agree with you on the processed food thing there). I'm going to find the 2002 version you talked about, thanks again!

Redearthflame....
you have to go to the Tools and My account then at the bottom you can check sodium...I think you have fiber checked at this point... so you would have to uncheck something in order to have your sodium display on your food log.
