I'm not sure. I guess the best thing is to try it out a few weeks and see if it works for you. I couldn't do it. Once I said good-bye to bread that had to be it. If I were to give in and have some and limit it, I would end up binging on all things bread and sugar. But, that's my addiction...

No harm in trying that out. I haven't eaten gluten in probably 8 years.

Why would you give up bread? Bread is quite a useful part of a good diet unless you have a gluten intolerance? It's not a criticism I'm just very interested in decision making and thoughts surrounding food choices since all feedback and information from everyone on Fat Secret has helped me enormously.
It's a mater of choice, hard work and a bit of OCD !!

I think what you are referring to is a carb cycle. It's what I'm doing. However, I go 3 days low-carb (35 grams or less) and 1 day normal-carb (about 85-90 grams).

The overwhelming majority of people who are intolerant to gluten are undiagnosed and may have no idea what is causing various random symptoms they may be having. Many people who were not diagnosed as gluten-intolerant, and even those who had all tests come back negative, found their health improved after giving it up for other reasons (like the household becoming gluten-free to prevent cross-contamination for a member with celiac).
Wheat is not a dietary necessity. Eating vegetables and rice instead will result in no dietary deficiency. Eliminating wheat is far less restrictive than diets many people voluntarily choose, either to lose weight or just because they want to.

Start weight 20/04/2013 = 240kg Goal weight 120kg (total loss 120kg)
It won't happen over night, but if you don't give up it WILL happen.

This lifestyle is giving me life, health, and energy to my cells, tissues, organs, and systems in my body; making me better physically, mentally, socially, spiritually, and emotionally. Is this more than JUST loosing weight? I think so, with a life force or an innate intelligence within giving you full expression in life!

Two reason some people cannot lose weight lies in the over use of starches in grains and the starches in starchy vegetables. Think about that for a moment!

I rarely eat bread but I do eat whole grain tortillas. Mine have 6g net carbs and 7g of fiber.

I have a 1/2 peanut butter sandwich on my homemade whole grain bread for breakfast every work day. Gets me through the am without getting hungry or that mid mornign slum. Good protien with the combo of peanuts, whole wheat, flax seed, and garbanzo flour. Doesn't work for me to cut back on the calories without my sandwich breakfast.

Bad idea. The best diet is a well balanced one. Our bodies needs proteins, dairy products, carbs, grains, and even fats.

This is incorrect. Of all the macro nutrients there is one you can live without if you choose, and that is carbohydrates.

I can also live without getting out of bed if I choose. That doesn't mean that it's healthy for my body.
Sorry, I just cringe whenever anyone chooses to vilify a certain macronutrient or food. There must be something to be said for low-carb diets since so many people make that choice, but to completely eliminate carbs from your diet? I just don't see the point.
If you have some backup as to how/why eliminating all carbs from your diet is a good idea, I'm all ears.

I agree with Bglrn. Protein is the building block of all cells in the body and supplies essential amino acids. Fat is an efficient energy source and is supplies essential fatty acids which the body cannot synthesize. Carbohydrates are only a source of energy which is quickly converted into and quickly stored as potential energy. It's not necessary for normal body functions. For those who use the fact that the brain needs glucose, the body can generate glucose via gluconeogenesis.
Don't get me wrong, carbs sure do taste damn good, but is not required for the body. Brootal, you can do just fine without breads and grains. I wouldn't worry about carbohydrates coming from natural sources like fruits and vegetables too much. But, try ditching the bread like you were thinking and see how your body responds.
Stay the course, stay on point, stay motivated, dedicated, and you won't be stopped. Discipline. Perseverance. Focus. Dig deep and you will be victorious.

This is the thing. When people start to talk about "eliminating all carbs" from one's diet, are they only talking about eliminating breads/grains? Because that's
much
different than "eliminating all carbs." Fruits, vegetables, beans/legumes, dairy.... all of these foods contain carbohydrates. So to tell someone to eliminate those from their diet seems asinine to me.

I do not think we eliminate carbs - we choose the quality of carbs we ingest; fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc. Please read the book WHEAT BELLY (Google on Amazon.com) and you will have a new perspective. It is the REFINED carbs in most breads, cookies, crackers, baked goods that will cause SOME people to struggle with weight loss.
If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

This
I agree with. It makes me think of a journal that my buddy FullaBella wrote recently. Something to the effect of: "Food is my friend, I just have to choose my friends wisely."

I completely see what you're saying. People often forget that the source is just as, if not more, important than just the type of nutrient. Anything coming from a natural source is definitely great in my eyes. Highly processed stuff? Not for me. It's tasty, but inefficient as a fuel source.
Although I must add, with my experience with the low-carb lifestyle with all protein and fat, I was able to get into the best shape of my life, had huge amounts of energy, blood pressure normalized, and all blood work/liver panel came back golden. That is "anectodal evidence" that for me, cannot be denied.

No peer reviewed studies just anecdotal. I personally would never push someone to eliminate carbs, but that really wasn't my point. My point was if you
choose
to abstain, you do not
need
carbohydrates.

I'm reading this while eating some absolutely delightful fresh melon for breakfast. If the melon isn't soft enough on its own you could add it to a fruit smoothie.
