You don't really need to skip a meal, just make it a healthier option. What's your calorie budget? If an after work meal will exceed it, try to "extract" it from one or more of the other meals.

My wording made it sound like I wasn't going to eat. Sorry. Actually, my downfall is going home and eating virtually anything in the fridge that is quick to grab. Bad, huh? My calorie budget is 1200 for this week anyway.

I have to agree that it can be quite difficult to start making something healthy to eat when you are tired from work. Have you tried making things in bulk? So you can just heat it up when you get home. However, the problem with this is that you'll eat the same thing several times pr week, which tend to get "boring". But at least this will be a quick grab. A low calorie protein bar or something is also something you could eat, just to kill off the worst hunger.

I have a hard time avoiding "easy, bad" stuff too, so we've just removed it from our home. There is nothing here that is off limits.
I like low fat string cheese. Sargento makes one that is 50 calories per piece and doesn't have the squishy texture that some low fat string cheese has. It is easy to grab when I'm hungry, filling, and has protein.

Are you in the US or Canada? Costco sells a protein shake called Premier Nutrition...already made...160 cal, 30g of protein, 1-2 g of carb. I down one of those when hunger strikes and due to the high protein...no more belly rumbles. Follow it with a glass of water and the cravings subside.

Also....the easy, bad stuff is not in my house anymore. If I want that now I'd have to pack up two small children in snow suits and go get it. That's enough to make me pause Smile

Thanks for your posts. I live in the U.S. I will be getting some protein shakes. Sounds like a great idea. Anything protein wil fill me up I am sure..along with plenty of water. I just started so I'm on my way. Good luck to all of you!

Clean out your frig and cabinet of the "bad" stuff and stock up on good things. On your day off put your week of snacks together so when you do get home easy access and not eating the bad foods Smile

Like many other people here, eliminating the food from the house is my advice. Removing the temptation is the best way to avoid things I have found. Went through the kitchen last week and threw a bunch of stuff away. It was sad to throw money away like that but knew it was better.
Definitely something to fill you up would be good in the evenings!
Like Lordrolfious, I cook things in bulk so I have quick meals that are healthy. Over the weekend I will make 2 or 3 things so I still have variety during the week but quick. Any kind of meat (chk, turkey, pork chops) cooked and then frozen are a sinch. Just take out of the freezer, into microwave and voila! Chilis and soups are also great for this.

Maybe change your routine? If your pig out time after work is between meals, maybe arrange your day so you aren't home at that time of day? Make that the time you go to the gym? Or walk home from work so you arrive home at dinner time? Definitely not possible for everyone, but something to consider.

Staying busy and limiting TV has worked for me. I try to find a project around the house, like organizing my closet, instead of watching TV.

Use a crock pot and put in healthy meats. When u get home its done and just add veg's.A whole chicken goes a long way. One nite I will eat just that a portion.Next nite I use cooked chicken to stuff a pasilla pepper with green pepper sauce.U can make chicken salad sandwitch ect. Same with a lean roast.look online for recipes

All great suggestions. Thanks! Getting rid of the Christmas cookies in the freezer will be a great start. lol. We have two big screen TVs so limiting TV will be a good thing also. All new habits to put into place. After all, it is a new year!

I found that binging after work comes from not eating enough earlier in the day.
