I was searching for weight loss diets and I came across the webpage that stated that Coconut oil is great for weight loss. Is this true? Can anyone help with the Truth in it. They did have a Great Diet and Exercises plan I will be doing. But Coconut Oil?? {“smartweightlossfast.com” If you want to read it}

A lot of people think natural coconut oil is a healthy fat. Some attribute almost magical properties to it. I am in the first group.
If you want to add coconut oil to your diet, you can either substitute it for whatever other fat you are currently consuming or for other calories, such as carbs. The only way to lose weight is by decreasing the number of calories you take in below the number your body uses.

I add it to my meals 3-4 times a week - my doc says 'not sure if it's heping but it's not hurting' (was worried about sat fat affect on my cholesterol.) I agree because I completely changed the way I eat the same time I added the CO so I can't give it all the credit. ON the other hand I do feel better when I do a pulling with it in fact reading this post reminded me to go do one as I have a cold today and have been wanting to test when 'sick'.

Not all fats are created equal even though they all have same amount of calories per gram. So from the pure calorie counting perspective it does not matter what fat you eat. But in practice it does not really work this way. Coconut oil obviously has properties that make it a much better cooking oil than vegetable and seed oils on the market (including olive oil that should not be heated as it loses some of the properties) - it does not oxidize and it does not overburden your body with too much Omega 6. It also has antifungal and antimicrobeal properties, and there is some evidence that it helps regulate your thyroid function. Saturated fats make you feel less hungry and do not cause extra cholesterol production in healthy individuals. It should not be refined though. So if you have a choice of eating 9 cal per gram of unhealthy fat or of coconut oil, choose coconut oil instead. In my personal experience (I unfortunately don't like the taste), I lose more weight when I make myself eat it when compared with days when I don't, even if I eat it as extra calories on top of what I normally eat. For me it is really extra calories, as I add it to my coffee, not replace other food with it. I had a chance to compare days when I eat same food and close amount of calories, but do not add coconut oil with the days when I add it. The difference is especially pronounced when I am in ketosis. So while it is not a magic weight loss pill it is better to select food that heals your body and not food that hurts your body. You have more chances to succeed in weight loss as well if your body gets the nutrients that it needs.
Edited: For calorie counting purists, as I anticipate this objection - I do not think that eating 50 extra calories in coconut oil and loosing more weight at the same time violates laws of physics. I think it changes the "in" or "out" part of the equation without me doing anything about it. I either burn more calories through increased thermogenesis due to some changes on hormonal levels or through NEAT without even noticing it, or it decreases food absorbtion, or any other scientific explanation, the point is that I do not have to make a conscious effort to eat less or burn more.

Reporting back post pulling - While I wasn't instantaneously cured of my cold I can breathe a little better. However before the pulling I had been wanting to eat all morning though not hungry (nor thirsty plenty of water) and my stomach was hurting. Once I completed the pulling process the grazing mode dissipated.

I can't eat coconut oil straight as some people can. It makes me gag. In fact, I was going to participate in a test of coconut oil and fasting at one point and had to bail on the first day because of that.
But I deep fry with it. The only thing I deep fry is french fries, and I do miss them terribly. It makes the lightest, crispiest, most ungreasy fries you could ever imagine, because they don't absorb as much of the fat as when you fry in liquid oil.

Same here, don't like the taste in the food either. Refined does not have the smell, but is not healthy. That is why I add it to the coffee. As crazy as it sounds (and that was my reaction when I first read this advise on another blog) it is practically unnoticable in black coffee, you just have to be careful not to make it too hot, and to swirl before sipping, as it does not get dissolved like milk.

I love the taste
, I can it a spoonful no problem. I only bought it last week so I have not really seen any results. But it is great for dry skin or as a hair mask.

I'm not so sure about eating it, never have. I do however know it is phenomenal for hair and skin, I mix just a bit up with my lotion and im like Butta' in these winter months!

Most of the claims that promot coconut oil as helpful for weight loss atribute that to the nature of the oil. Coconut oil is mostly composed of Medium-chain triglycerides (MCT). MCT is digested differently than other fats in the body and reportedly boosts metabolisim.

I'm with others here. If you like it great! If not, oh well.

You lost what?!
Ha ha ha, I can't wait to weigh in at the end of the month and see where I am. I imagine I'll be somewhere close to a sperm whale's brain.

This is a great time to make your own cranwater while they are in season. I get a bag of cranberries for 99 cents here so you are saving bundles; it is however, a little time consuming.
