I like to go jogging and riding my home bike but should I increas my weightlifting to lose weight? I lift weights everyday for 15-30 mins. I have 3kg (6lb) weights and weights for my legs which i wrap around my ankles. I don't like to go to the gym by the way, too shy.
Thanks guys

I highly recommend weights. Muscle helps you burn fat. September 13 i finished p90x...it was hands down the best thing I ever did for myself. I have never felt stronger. When I started i had free weights ranging from 5 to 10 lbs. by the time I finished they were up to 20lbs. The exercises can be done using bands too which is more convenient (and cheaper) for many people. By incorporating weight training with cardio the results came pretty fast. I'm now doing Insanity and can keep up with all the younguns in the videos.

Both will help. Lift weights first and then run. The purpose for both is when you lift weights and run you burn calories long after the workout versus just doing the run where the calorie burning would stop as soon as you stopped running.

Cardio burns more calories while you are doing it but weight lifting continues to burn calories after you finish exercising and increases your metabolism. On top of that, building muscle helps to define your body into a more pleasing shape. Starting off with light weights at home will get you started but, unfortunately, you will have to invest in some heavier weights and equipment in the not-to-distant future or go to a gym to continue to where it really starts to be beneficial.

The question of cardio versus weight training has been addressed by many, many different people and there seems to be a general consensus that incorporating both into your routine is best. However, it is also generally agreed upon that while more calories are burned doing cardio compared to weight training, overall weight training has a slight edge over cardio if you choose one or the other rather than both.
Here are a few resources discussing the merits of both:
From Women's Health Magazine:

From livestrong.com:

From the University of New Hampshire:

I can't tell you what choice to make. All I can do is tell you what I've found and provide a few resources for you to look at so you can see some of the available information that's out there. Ultimately you need to decide what's best for you. Whatever you choose, best of luck to you in reaching your goals!

Since you are a female, have you considered giving
peak pilates
a try? I know they don't bring in fast results, but they definitely work if you dedicate yourself to working out at least a couple of times a week. But you would need to sign up for a class since some of the equipment is pretty large, especially
reformers

Weights, but you need to lift them to FAILURE, the most you can do and not an ounce more. Twice a week is plenty.

Doing cardio is also a major fat buster.
But in order for it to be effective you have to switch between levels. You can't let yourself find a speed and stick to it for long periods of time, it does nothing for fat loss, what helps the most is alternating between 2.5 minutes at a brisk walk, then 1 minute at a hard sprint (you can very the times but the intensity needs to be in the sprint)

neither helps a whole lot (see, for example,

), but weightlifting will give you benefits for longer by building LBM and boosting metabolism.

AMEN Iornaw. Summary:
Eat more protein and fat, get your carbs from vegetables and fruits, and eat less of everything.
Exercise regularly, but exercise smart. Increase the intensity and shorten the time.

Look good naked? Weight train.
I say do both.
Love your food or risk failure. No quick fixes, this is a lifestyle change. No extremes are needed just consistency.

Thanks guys for your input. I'm still exercising everyday cardio and weightlifting and now for 1,5h/2h. I'll follow your advice and start changing the pace while riding my home bike. I always ride it fast but there is also the option of riding it really fast when I almost fall off of it LOL I'm very motivated, so close to my goal

Cardio and weights (weights only need to be 2 to 3 times per week although you can do upper body 2x/wk and lower body 2x/wk if you want). People seem to forget that weight bearing cardio is weight lifting and provides endurance. The higher the body weight the greater the weight you have to lift.

I agree as well. Cardio does give you that good feeling of able to wear your clothes...and feel good.

The exercise program that will help you the most is one you like enough to stick with.
