Caloric Deficit Eating

Are any of you eating in caloric deficit, meaning 500 or more calories below your BMR levels?

Although this accelerates your weight loss, aren't you afraid of gaining back the weight doubly quick when you start increasing your calorie intake or will you comfortably continue to eat in caloric deficit?

I am at a deficit of about 300 calories for basic maintenance of daily function. Add on top of that the calories I burn exercising and I am approximately 700 calories below.

However, I believe that people on Atkins dont have to worry about calories because once ketosis kicks in (the body using body fat to burn energy), the body will compensate for any deficit by simply burning more fat.

I do worry however if I should at least increase my calorie intake. I average about 1200 calories per day but I am not losing any weight.

Would love to get some input on this.

According to my BMR I should be consuming around 1600 calories which most days I am no where near. It has been suggested that maybe the scale doesn't move often is because that BMR level is not being fed? By being in deficit, you're actually doing your metabolism harm and metabolic repair then needs to be done. As caged liberty says, informed input on this would be good.

I just checked out my BMR, and found out it's currently a little over 1,400 calories. My average intake is usually around 1,600 calories, although this is done via calorie zig-zagging (target average ~ 1,300-1,400 calories), interspersed with some naughty cheat days! I find this seems to work OK, and I actually tend to see the biggest losses shortly after one of those naughty treat days. Confused
My weight-loss journey, so far...
09/07/2007: 210lb - BMI 36.6
20/08/2007: 196lb - BMI 34.2 (1 stone lost)
29/10/2007: 182lb - BMI 31.7 (2 stone lost)
14/01/2008: 168.5 - BMI 29.4 (3 stone lost)
31/03/2008: 151.5 - BMI 26.4 (4 stone lost)
09/06/2008: 139.2 - BMI 24.4 (5 stone lost and goal weight reached!!)

Caloric Deficit Eating (fancy name!) - This is the basis & main focus of my personal weight loss program. According to data (plus/minus) my BMR is 2700 and I can easily keep my intake to 1500 or lower. Luckily (depending on how you look at things...) I live in a place that doesn't support a totally sedentary lifestyle (Arctic Norway). So I am active most of the time. Snow clearing in winter and gardening all summer uses a lot of energy! I am not really afraid of putting the weight back on straight away after a weight loss period. I have experienced that to a degree in the past, but it's not really a problem. It tends to sneak its way on you over time.....
If things don't change, they'll stay as they are
