I know it's like a cat's tongue, all hairy-like, but is it just me, or does anyone else eat the skin of kiwi fruit? I figure it's got to be nutritious, as it's usually very sour, and bound to be full of fiber...right?

I've eaten it in the past - a long time ago - but the last 2 I bought I peeled them. Just didn't seem to apetizing to me at the time. I do eat the skin on white and sweet potatoes though AND skin on salmon when it is cooked crispy on the grill. TMI???

"Can you eat the skin of a kiwifruit? Absolutely! The kiwifruit skin is completely edible and makes this nutrient-dense fruit even more nutritious! A recent study shows that eating the skin triples the fiber intake compared to merely eating the flesh. And by not peeling the skin, you preserve much of the vitamin C content as well. People all over the world have been eating the skin for centuries with no complaints. And many find that leaving the skin on their sliced kiwifruit makes it much easier for snacking, as the skin holds each slice together. Just like any fresh fruit or vegetable, we suggest that you wash the skin before eating since it is unknown who or what touched it before you did. So enjoy your kiwifruit, skin and all!"
Found on kiwifruit.org website. I personally have never tried it.

Triples the fiber intake?? wow! Sure would be nice to have the USDA database updated to show that. I try to eat 2-3 a day, that must really up my fiber/day.

2 links to share here (1 for comparison). I figure if you'd like to add an item to the database since you do consume them with the skin, you can use this to go by.

Note, it didn't link completely, so copy and paste each full line into your browser window is recommended.
