My logic when I started losing weight was this:
I can drink diet soda. Sure, there may be harmful things in there, but they keep me happy, they keep me wanting to continue losing weight. The tiny bit of chemicals in the soda are not killing me. Weighing twice the weight I'm supposed to is killing me. What's more important?
Over the course of my weight loss journey I have simply weened off the sodas. They do nothing for me any longer and I would much rather have a nice, clean, cold glass of water. Anytime.

From October 4th 2010 to April 3rd 2012 I lost half my body weight - 80 kilos/170 lbs. Since then, I have had two cosmetic surgeries to remove excess skin. I have now quadrupled my strength, gained several kilos in muscle mass, and today I focus on building muscle, optimizing my diet, and living healthy. I am stronger, healthier, thinner, happier!
