Hello again! I'm back!! was doing so good on Atkins for six days, and then my mom and sister came over to take me out to eat, plus brought me some cupcakes (big ones), they lasted three days, so I really screwed up, and been doing bad since June 29, and today. I want to start the program again tomorrow. I hope I can't get throught the first few days. I want to stop doing this to myself, and stay healthy and in control of what I eat once and for all. so here I go again.Stating July 14th, 2012. I need help! anyone starting Atkins too?

I'm on Atkins and I'm here to say that you can do this, but you need to convince yourself. By accepting sabotaging food gifts, you're only giving into the temptation. I'm not saying they did it on purpose - especially if they didn't know you were doing this lifestyle change. I'm just saying that you need to view every temptation as a challenge, remind yourself that "this too shall pass", tell yourself the cheat is NOT worth it, the guilt will bring you down emotionally, and completely hinder your success. So don't feel one bit bad about handing those food gifts right back to the giver, and say "As wonderful as that looks, and as thoughtful as that was, I'm sorry but I don't eat those type of foods anymore." - and don't feel any further need to explain yourself.

I think with any way of eating, you have to get your mind 100% into it. If I start thinking about all the things I can't have, I start justifying why just one won't hurt...then it starts! I try to focus on the foods I can have - bacon is probably my biggest guilty pleasure - only without the guilt!

DDeanna - dont feel bad.. I fell off this week too! I had Zero weight loss in week 2 and couldnt really get past the discouraged feeling I had.. add into that, I had 2 sick babies and vascular surgery on my leg during the same week that I was trying to stay strong and I failed. It was too much. I fell off for 5 days, and I didnt go crazy or anything, but certainly reintroduced carbs, and I gained back the 4lbs I had lost. Back to the drawing board. And my birthday is Sunday so Im thinking about what I wont be able to have if I dont "cheat". Im hoping I can stay strong this time around!

I tell myself that no one is forcing me to do this WOE and that does help quite a lot. It's my choice to be on Atkins and it's my choice to say "no" to foods I shouldn't eat if I want to be healthy and lose weight. Half the battle is in our minds, and once you've made yours up that this is your choice and something you *want to do, saying "no" becomes a lot easier. Especially in the beginning of this WOE, it is so important to stick to it or you will never go into ketosis and stay in it. Nothing worse than going in and out of ketosis and once you have adapted, it all gets so much easier. Less cravings, easier to say "no" to crappy foods.

Need suggestions on healthy/low-calorie foods.
I'm reading this while eating some absolutely delightful fresh melon for breakfast. If the melon isn't soft enough on its own you could add it to a fruit smoothie.

Hmmm. Didn't realize plain yogurt was that high in carbs. I mentioned it because the friend who recommended it to me said her parents do it, and they are both on Atkins. I'm doing Paleo, but ...

Even though fat doesn't count in Atkins, it can cause you to gain or not lose weight if you consume too much. Be careful of over eating this nutrient. ie: cream, cream cheese.
