Does anyone have helpful information about the artificial sweetner called "Nu-Stevia"? My husband bought some at Vitamin World to replace his "Equal" sweetner. The information I read on line states that this substance caused "reproduction problems" in labratory rats. My husband is not a rat and we are no longer reproducing. At the same time I am understandably curious.

I've never heard of Nu-Stevia. But stevia itself is not artificial. Its an extract from the leaves of a plant, I believe the plant(s) are related to sunflowers. The extract is much sweeter than sugar. Though I find it has a weird aftertaste. Its been used in some tropical countries for a long time and has been tested in other countries. In Canada, it hasn't been approved as a sugar substitute, thats why you will find it in health food stores.

I've been using Truvia which only contains stevia extract (never heard of Nu-Stevia either) for quite some time now and prefer it over ANY other sweetner because it's natural. I use it to sweeten pretty much everything and my whole family likes it. I actually bought it for my husband who used to add two tablespoons(!) of sugar in his coffee and he didn't even notice a difference in taste at all. I love the fact that it's not artificial like Splenda, Equal and all the other sweetners.

Is Stevia really natural? I respect Marion Nestle quite a lot. She's one of the few people who are really thinking clearly about food politics.

I accidentally bought an Honest Tea passion fruit green tea the other day without noticing the words "zero calorie" on the label. I took one sip of it and then looked at the bottle in disgust-- it was vile! Once I read the label and figured out what was going on, I tossed it. That was my one experience with stevia.

We know what the effects of sugar are on our bodies. Why not use it in small quantities rather than messing around with things that haven't been well-tested?

Thank you for the helpful information. I have seen the label stevia but this product is called Nu-Stevia. Maybe that is a brand name. The substance tastes like sugar to me. I have removed Sweet & low from my diet & I have tasted this "Nu-Stevia" a few times. Thanks again!
