I've been looking into diet pills after a friend of mine acheived good weight loss with them. I'm mostly looking at ones which work along-side exercise and a healthy diet, and i'm wondering if anybody has ever tried them and if they have any advice? I understand this is not recommended, but i've spoken to my doctors and he advised that i look into it before making any kind of dicision. So are there any worth trying or worth avoiding? And all they all phoney or are there some that are worth trying?

Avoid. There is no pill that will do what healthy eating and exercise will do. There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going. Whatever you do, make sure it is something you want to keep doing for the rest of your life because you do have to permanently change your lifestyle in order to maintain the weight you lose, no matter how you do it.

Like everyone else I'm always tempted when I see the diet pills advertised as a "fast fix" to the extra weight I've put on over the years. But, I have to agree with k8yk, when she says "Whatever you do, make sure it is something you want to keep doing for the rest of your life...." The bottom line is this: You are what you eat, and your body will reflect your food choices both in quality and amount. Exercising will only speed up weight-loss, tone muscles, and improve your mood. The body is meant to be healthy and will reach its ompimal weight for your unique body type in its own time. In my experience, if I get really honest with my food by writing it all down, I can see why I am gaining, losing, or maintaining my body weight. Sometimes I purposely maintain for a good long while to allow my body (aging skin) to adjust to the changes. I'm now back trying to lose the last 25 (I've lost 50) and am happy to be here with you all to discuss the process! Best wishes to you!

Thank you for all the responses! I think i'll keep at it with the exercise and dieting, i'll keep pills as a last resort if, in a year or so, i'm still seeing no change! Thanks for the advice, good luck to everyone!

Diet Pills are BAD! But there is one thing that I take as a supliment. Tonalin CLA. I have found that it helps my metabolism and energy but when I forget or don't take it I do not gain or anything so not bad effects for not taking it. Some people it works and others not. afriend suggested CLA and said specificly Tonalin. My doc said she can't support it but had seen good results for some people. Like everything else we are all different but it seems to have worked for me. Also helps withmy digestion, esp on higher protein days. I use the vitamin shoppes. Great deal when it goes on sale BOGO.

Whatever you think of the health risks, all of these diet pills follow a basic pattern:
In the first week or month they work great. Depending on the pill, your appetite is down or you lose weight quickly without much effort. But your body will soon adjust! Your body will start working against you to compensate for the changes that just occurred.
Soon enough they stop working altogether or you need to exercise even more to fix your body's compensation. This also can affect your mind as you may feel elated on the pills or have extra energy that just crashes later.
Try to avoid these over the counter medications.
If you feel you need something, talk to your doctor. There are more mild and natural appetite suppressants like Potassium which can be prescribed as part of a diet program. This can be a good dieting extra because in many diets you don't get enough.
The right decision at the right time.
