My fat content i suppose to be 10%. However, I ate nothing but 'real' food today - fresh milk, lentils, almonds, egg and oatmeal. My fat content is 40% of my calories. Any suggestions on how to arrange good food and lower the fat content?

Why do you think your fat content is supposed to be 10%? That seems very low to me. Is there a specific reason why you're limiting fats?

I do watch my fat but it's also about the types of fat and that isn't broken down here. An ounce of raw nuts will make it skyrocket yet it's healthy fat. All those foods have a definite place in a healthy diet, just have to watch portions. I have replaced eggs with egg beaters for the most part, the others I'd keep and look at the types that make up that number more than just the number itself.

10% does seem pretty low, especially if you're eating nuts. Are you on a specific diet that is only allowing 10% fats? You may want to do some research on the amount of fats you should eat, or the right balance of fats, proteins, and carbs for you. I try to watch my fat too, but if I know a lot of it is coming from nuts or other things like avacados I don't worry if it is up a bit. There is a difference between junk and healthy fats, don't go overboard with the healthy fats, but like everything else do them in moderation.

Fat taken directly from natural food sources is good for you. Fat has been so villainized, it's rediculous. We need it, it's used for cushioning around vital organs and as a source of energy. Don't hate natural fats derived from animals and plants. Hate junk food fat and highly processed foods. That's what's going to hurt you.

I'm with everyone else - why such low fat goals?
That list of foods you gave sounds pretty healthy and yummy to me...and it makes me sad that you refer to them as "real" foods while hinting that you should not WANT real food.
I took a peek at your food diary, and you didn't even go all wacky on the carbs (which would always be my first limiting factor, personally).
Please find ways to make yourself happy while you're losing weight, don't just resign yourself to eating "diet" foods - or whatever the opposite of "real" food is.
Find a healthy way to eat NOW that you'd be perfectly content to continue for the rest of your life, and you have the battle 90% won!

It's hard to make suggestions with really only 1 day of data (looks like you weren't recording consistently the past month or so), but I'd suggest incorporating more vegetables into your diet. This will up your carb amount slightly (good carbs though). You can also try to increase the amount of protein in your diet and that will naturally bring your fat amounts down a bit. Are you a vegetarian? But it looks like you ate all "good" fats so I wouldn't be concerned too much with your macronutrient amounts. If your fat amount was high because you only ate french fries and cheese (but stayed below your calorie limit), then I'd be concerned.

Looked at yeaterday... the whole milk is something that accounted for a large part. If you can go to 2% it will help and then when you're used to that even going to 1% if ou don't like skim. Will leave you more for other yummy stuff! Going to 1% and almond milk, switching out some of my eggs for beaters and lower fat cheeses are all tradeoffs that have made a big difference. But I will not give up my nuts, EVOO, avacados etc. Thats all the healthy stuff that in moderation helps with flavor and energy.

Lisa's right, diet foods sucks. Why suffer? Eating fresh natural foods is probably the best thing anyone can do to eat and be healthier. I mean, it's what we were designed to eat when you look at it from an evolutionary point of view. Why fight it because some govt agency or some so-called "expert" says you can't eat it. If it feels right and you have good results from it, go for it.

Thank y'all for all the good info. I am gathering info from all over the place. Some good and some bad. I think it is wack to keep fat to 10% when it is good fat. I am stuck in my weight loss. I should be glad where I am at for my build and age. Everyone says I look good. I would still like to loose 10 more pounds to get my BMI in range. I think I will keep eating real food....taste the best, most satisfying, and best for my body.

ECO Atkins for a skinny vegetarian with a belly
This would be a good question for the nutritionist over on the atkins.com boards. Colette Heimowitz is her name. Post your question with her name in the title and she will respond.
