I would appreciate any tips and also-just some support while I am gone. Smile Maybe I should just eat half of what I would usually eat, so I don't feel deprived-or totally avoid. Suggestions? I don't know what you are eating now but when I go away I eat a high protein breakfast and stick with something like turkey for lunch. For dinners I would definitely research all the menus online prior to going to any of those restaurants. I would know what I was going to order and I wouldn't deviate from it at all. Think long term and how unhappy you will be if you have to start over. You can do this. Be strong and be healthy. Hope this helps.

I am going to my hometown (small town) and the restaurants don't have the nutrition stuff posted. I usually have a sub sandwich and also hit the burger joint for a patty melt. I think I will pack some of the high protein meal bars I have, eat a good breakfast like chattycathy! suggested and I think I will completely avoid the burger place-Too much temptation. There is a Hardee's there-I will check out their menu on-line and decide before I go. I am sure my family will be bbq-ing, I will just have to avoid the chips and eat the protein and a big salad. It's the mental part that is hard. I need to think long term. Thanks you guys Smile

Oh my goodness. Everything about your last post sounds SO evil-delicious!! I know how hard it can be to go to places with heaven on plates, and no calorie counters on the menus. When that happens, I usually scan the menu to check if there's a small section for "healthier alternatives". If not, just try to have a little common sense when it comes to choosing your meal.

Remember: what you're ordering might have a lot of vitamins or protein, but if it's lathered in something or fried or all wrapped up in carbful bread, the justification is pretty much gone. It's super hard, but try your best!! If you eat straight-up healthily, you can just about eat as much of it as you want. With the more tempting (and savory) meals, try to set reasonable goals without going "cold turkey" -- doing that drives me crazy. For example: If you eat reasonably bad for you foods at each meal, try cutting it back to only 2 meals. Slowlyyyyyy limit yourself so you can mentally adjust. (because it really is a mental thing in ourselves). A bit more difficult, but you can also try having ONLY 3 meals a day. No snacking, unless it's part of your meal. It's super hard, but effective. Also, don't get into the "rewarding yourself" category. I was in those shoes for far too long. It's when you've been good all day, and reward yourself with cake or a fatty, greasy, yummy something. No no! This ends in disaster, and retrains me to thinking that healthy foods all end up to desserts of some kind. >.<

Blah blah blah, regardless of all that, be sure to have fun!!! Be smart, but don't let what you eat or can't eat, get you down. Sounds like this traveling adventure is going to be fantastic!! Very Happy

If you're family is going to be BBQing, try asking for (or even bringing your own) healthier options, like turkey burgers (with a whole wheat bun!) or chicken shishkabobs with lots of veggies. Honestly, I find them so much more delicious with a fantastic marinade than a store bought burger dripping in fat! Whatever you do though, steer clear of the macaroni and potato salad. No no on that much mayo!

When I get a sweet tooth I eat 2 Tbs of peanut butter...only 7 gms of carbs. It really works because the peanut butter is thick and rich and you can savor the sweetness for a long time.
