I've been using skim milk at home, for recipes, in smoothies and on cereal. My boyfriend thinks we should switch to another non-dairy option.

Anyone have any input on what would be a good switch? Or do I stick with good ol' skim milk?

I drink Almond milk Original 35 calorie. I think it tastes better than milk, has less calories, and 50% more calcium than reg milks, as well as lots of other vitemins and minerals not found in milk.

i usually drink soy milk cuz skimmed makes me feel bloated, but make sure to read the labels first, cuz some of them contain added sugar and lots of calories

I like Blue Diamond's Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk (low carb and low sugar while still tasting sweet) and the So Delicous Coconut Milk (also low carb and low sugar). I cook with both, although they lack the protein that "regular" milk has in most cases. Trader Joe's has a brand as well. I don't mind soy milk--Silk Chocolate is wonderful!-- but DH stays away from soy when he can so I don't buy it that often.

I second book lady on the Blue Diamond Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk. It is delicious. However, I have started using Dairy-Ease more due to how high it is in protein. I think it has like 9g a cup! I haven't used either of them in cooking, but I hope to experiment soon Smile

I'm also in on Blue Diamond's Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk. Use it for my protein shakes, and with oatmeal or cereal on the rare occassion I give in. Started with the plain which is also good but since I mainly use it for shakes I stick to vanilla most of the time.

I drink the Unsweetened Vanilla or Original Almond Milk and the Regular Original Almond Milk. I like the taste of the 60 calorie one, but use the 35 calorie one in baking and/or smoothies to cut back on the calories. I like that it has more calcium and does not contain soy. I don't think I will ever go back to skim milk!

I agree with a lot of other users. The plain almond milk is great and the kind I buy is only 40 calories a cup. I do like the vanilla flavor better to drink but then I cant exactly use it in tomato soup or eggs.

Is there a reason why you feel like you should go non-dairy? Most of the alternatives fall far short of the protein you get in dairy milk and only have calcium and vit D because they add it.

Personally, I do both. I have a hard time replacing dairy milk in my lattes and cereal but do like to use almond and coconut for smoothies, protein shakes, home-made frappaccinos and some cooking & baking. When it comes to non-dairly alternatives, I second JTMsMommy on the Almond Coconut blend- it really has the best flavors of both.
