Feeling like a failure...

I have been at this for just over a month. I am feeling like I am letting my confidence slip through my fingers. Had a binge the other night and another last night. When I usually get to this point I give in a and give up. I gained six pounds in two days, yes I know it is water, bla, bla, bla... It is just hard to see and not understanding the cause is frustrating. I was referred to as "the big fat one" yesterday and it hurt more than usual. I think it is because I have lost nearly 30 pounds and now someone says something??!! I just need to get my head back to where it should be. I just don't know. I want this so bad. I am a grama for the first time and I want my grandson to be able to sit on my lap. right now I don't have a lap...

You are not alone. Every one has those days. Every day is a clean slate and if you can do just one small change every day you will see results. It took time to put on the weight, even though it seems to go on easier than to lose, you must be patient and keep taking the steps and you will see results over a period of time. Good luck and keep going!

You can turn it around. Lynn's right. I've had a couple of those days lately myself. Today is one of them actually. Tight on cash right now so it's whatever we have in the freezer, frozen burritos. And I already pigged out on 5 peanut butter cookies and blown my cal intake for the day. I'm hoping that I can down some salad to help myself not eat too many burritos and I'm chugging water too. Take the positive out of every day and move on. Start tomorrow off with a walk or sometimes when I fall out of sync with my diet &/or exercise I create a plan. I'll log all of my food into my food diary for tomorrow. It's too difficult to change everything so I usually stick to it. But whatever you do, do not feel like a failure! The fact that you started this thread means there is will to change it. Now put that into action!!!

We all have bad days, if you look at my weight loss graph there are a bunch of blips go up. Sometime my weight increase even though I have done everything right..sometimes because I did everything wrong. But the overall trend is down, that is the important thing.

You said it fatoldlady (with beautiful dogs)! We will always have days that we don't follow our plan for the long term. To think that forever and ever you'll never have XXXX again, is so depressing. So, similarly, our weight won't always follow our plans for it either. Little ups, little downs - it's about trends and stability... and right now, it's about support for you. Besides, according to your photo, you're a pretty ideal weight

Agree we ALL have bad days I've had many myself. I make sure to eat a healthy breakfast the next day and get right back to my routine and forget about yesterday. Don't eat less today because of your mistakes it will make you hungry and eat more.

As Craig says take it one day at a time. Make sure the day your on is a good one and eventually they add up. I agree with everyone we all have days where we feel the same way. Its easy to give up. Stay strong and keep going. Youll get there!

I agree with all said here...it is tough to lose weight and frustrating at times....this is why we are here...start with a clean slate the next day with one small goal...Maybe have a reward jar...you can lose weight and save money to treat yourself to something for maybe halfway to your goal?

I'm in the exact same place right now. I feel like I whatever I do, right or wrong, is going to get me no where. Because that's where I keep ending up. I just try to keep reminding myself that my weight used to be a lot worse and that I should be thankful I haven't gone completely in reverse and gained all of it back. I also keep this in my head "When everything else seems out of control, you still have control over what you consume."

So, you can take this bad day and turn it into motivation. Do you want to feel like this again? Will that extra cookie or whatever you are overindulging on help you reach your goal?
Find out why you are going off track - this takes 100% honesty. There is usually a reason behind the madness. If you are struggling with this, then you need to write down what you are feeling when you decide to eat. (Bored, tired, stressed, hungry, excited, sad, depressed, happy) Once you find out what is truly causing you to overeat at one specific moment, then you can begin to tackle the problem. Figure out the problem and then find some solutions that work for you. If you eat out of bored - find something to do. If you eat b/c you are tired - get more sleep or make sure you have healthy alternatives available all the time.
Some will say that it happens to everyone and you just need to move on and get back on the wagon. As long as you get back on track, then you will be okay... I say this is just an excuse that you can use to eat what you want and not stay on track. I'm not trying to be harsh, but if you want to be successful for the rest of your life then you need to figure this out. It may take some soul searching, but you need to do this. No excuses, get on track. If you want this and I mean really want this, you will get it done. Now, get a pad of paper and put it in the kitchen. Next time you eat write down the time and why you are eating (it can be b/c it is mealtime or b/c you had a bad day). Do not allow these episodes to control you and to set you off on the wrong path. You have work to do and you need to take it seriously.
I used to be a stress eater. I'd have a bad day at work and felt I deserved to eat a bagel w/ loads of cream cheese before dinner and then load up on whatever sugary sweets I could find. Now, I make sure to have a few sugar free candies available for such a situation. I force myself to workout before dinner and that pretty much alleviates that specific episode of wanting to stress eat.
If I get cravings, I find ways to make the item healthier. I have tons of recipes and will make a batch of whatever and allow myself one serving. Nothing is off limits, except for things that I have eliminated from my diet (not for weight loss just health), such as dairy and most meats except fish.

I can definitely understand where you are coming from. I think what I did today helped me see the bigger a picture: make a list of the changes you HAVE made and the things that you have done RIGHT that are helping you along your weight loss journey.
For me, (after only 19 days LOL and lots of screw up already), I am most proud of myself for just sticking with it. I am still off soda-on water and counting calories (however many they may be).
But I have never been a good dieter, and just the fact that I haven't given up and gone right back to my old eating habits is big for me.
What are you proud of? It sounds like you lost 30 pounds and that is STELLAR!

Was sooooo there where you are, did everything right, and had no visible results... I got fed up and threw in the towel. Big mistake, put on even more. NCNOLE is 100% correct. I have been thinking a lot of late why I run after the sugar, and cups of coffee, and everything else. It take some soul searching to see the big picture, and instead of trying to simply treat the symptoms, to actually look at the cause.
Now I am back on this site, and determined to live a healthier life.

Jinks, I LOVED that blog post!! Such a realistic, logical approach - exactly how I think of it and precisely why it frustrates me to no end when people give up too quickly or have unrealistic expectations.
And also, just in case Rpalmst reads this.... The part about Lucky Charms just about killed me because I was laughing so hard...

I am so happy I found this. I did great for a month and then last month I just kept struggling what felt like every day. I know it may be weird but the hardest thing for me is when I am home alone. I eat everything and anything when I am alone.

for me i believe that with a life style change you need to realize that it is more then just physical, it is also emotional and spiritual too.
turn the negative into a positive... keep the faith that you will accomplish anything you put your mind too.

Eating and Smoking
Sorry i didnt respond back, i went back to smoking but not as much as before. I am aware what i am doing, but have to get my things in prepective. Thanks for advice though, never thought of some of those ...

My doctors told me that my insulin was a 23 before I started a VLCD and exercise regiment. A little more then 1 month later after loosing about 25 lbs My insulin level was 13. Now another month later ...
