hahah I live in Germany and if you tell a person here "everything's in butter"... it means that things are going super for you Very Happy

Mike you have reminded me of an awesome book - "Real Food" by Nina Planck. She takes an entire chapter out on every food group, including oils. Very well researched, explains cholesterol and why it's perhaps not such a good predictor of future heart disease (and which lab tests could be better predictors!). She even goes into the history of certain foods and their good/bad reputations. I read it once a year.

Don't read it on an empty stomach Wink

Ladybeans5, great minds think alike!

From everything I've read I really do think that dairy fat is possibly one of the healthiest foods one can eat. This is something that we used to know and was baked into our language with sayings like "cream of the crop" to describe the best of the best. I wonder how old that saying from Germany is?

I bought the book "Real Food For Mother & Baby" by Nina Planck for my wife but neither of us had a chance to read it yet. I've skimmed it and like a lot of what is in there.

I think that you are doing a great job even without the book! There is so much information to be had online that you can get a great start in. I have been on atkins since nov/11 and by the time I reach my goal which is in four pounds I will have lost 60lbs. I have never felt better, realizing the proper way to eat has done wonders for me. I am an atkins for lifer, that is what works for me. We all have to find our own way, information is power. This has been a great post, I wish you all the best on your journey!
If you have the right mindset then nothing can stop you from reaching your goals! Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!

I don't follow Atkins, but I think that if you are feeling better and seeing results, keep doing what you're doing. I'd read the book when you get it, so maybe if some tweeking needs done you can do that, but as long as you aren't starving yourself and you are eating healthy good for you. Atkins isn't for me, but I know a lot of people who have followed it and seen great results, so do what you think works best for you. Good luck!!

I hope I was not the one to give that advice: Read the book
LOL
It is something I say once in a while.
Many people has such misconceptions about what the Atkins diet is and try to wing it with something that I think is either not going to work or is unhealthy.
But it is not hard to find out what are the rules of the diet even if you do not have the book
It is not that complicated I think.

Anyways hope you are doing just fine today as well.

Before I started Atkins I cut just sugar and refined carbs for a week. I think it helps a lot in just how you feel. Just stay strong and we are all always learning. Hang in there. Just read more and keep educating yourself. Ignore the negativity!

Love the food that loves you back.

Take it one day at a time!

YAY!! I am really glad you have stuck with it. How are you getting on weight-loss wise?

mikefarinha, I live in Turkey and I don't think I can get coconut oil here. Peanut oil is not available. Obviously I have Olive oil available, but worry about the health risks of overheating it. So I have been using corn or sunflower oil for deep frying. Can you tell me what alternatives I should aim for in order of preference??
