Does anyone know why on the exercise list under weight training we only have "moderate" weightlifting available? When I am done lifting I have put everyting into it and I feel it is a heavy workout session. Don't miss understand, weight training is not my only exercise. I just feel that I must be burning more calories in my 30 minutes of exhaustive wegihtlifting than what I can add to my exercise diary on Fat Secret. Any help is appreciated.

IMO we don't burn as much calories when we weight train as compared to cardio. I wear a bodymedia fit and in 30 minutes of weight training I am lucky to burn 100 calories, while doing cardio it's easily twice that, if not more. The other thing to consider is that when you are weight training, you have breaks between sets, so you are not typically using all 30 minutes on weights. Personally, I don't use the calculators on here, but if you are seeing success then I would just continue what you are doing.

Thanks for the information
I knew that I was not burning as many calories when weight training, but i had hoped that there would be some allowance for heavy weight training. I still use the calculators here mostly becasue I don't have anything else. I know they are not exactly perfectly accurate, but at least I can keep some general track of trends. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.

The actual calorie burn during weight training is inconcequential.
Regular weight training (2-3 times a week) will raise your BMR by upto 300 a day. Even on off days.
Takes me about 3 days to recover from a session. I guess 100 cals from the session itself (40 mins) and extra 200 cals (spread of the next 3 days) for recovery. So 300 total for a heavy 40 min session.
Also, Think of it this way. 1lb of fat burns 2 cals a day. 1lb of muscle burns 50 cals a day.
It pays to keep the muscle and build on it.

That's sounds hard to believe. Got any evidence to back it up?

mmm sorry... Inconcequential is probably a bit strong.
Say you burn 200 cals weight training 2.5 times week..
Thats 500 cals a week.
But gaining muscle and raising your metablism can evntually add 300 a day which is 2100 a week.
So the real benifit is the later... but you got to do the former.
