Alternative to Pizza?

Pizza. Ahh pizza. My downfall.
I don't know if any of you have had an XXL Papa Johns pizza before, but I have...
Can anyone suggest an alternative? I've tried chicken breast with passata, tomatoes and low fat cheese but it was a bit messy under the grill!

Well I don't know your Papa Johns Pizza, but I have tried different types of "bottoms", where I found two sheets of filo dough to be the most useful alternative. You can top it off any way you would your pizza, but put on only a little olive oil mixed with garlic on the sides. Saves you lots of carbs and calories. Another recipe I found online had linseed with eggs as a bottom and another one was with cauliflower... but you better google those.

I have one! This is a recipe that uses cauliflower as the crust (I use her basic recipe but add my own favorite seasons--mainly pizza seasonsings). I also just eat the crust as a side dish! Yum! You can be creative with your own toppings but this gives you an idea of what you can do.
Note on the cauliflower, I just ran it through the cheese grater, it's that simple. Then just add the egg, cheese and seasons of choice.

How about just making your own whole wheat dough and then measuring out your toppings so you know how many calories you are eating. I make my own whole wheat crust (really easy) and then top with hunt's tomato sauce, light on the cheese (or lately no cheese as I am avoiding dairy), and then top with veggies. I actually have gotten so used to my own pizza that I prefer it over delivery.
There is also a spinach crust pizza made with spinach, eggs and cheese. I haven't tried it, but you can google it. It sounded yummy to me, but I can't figure out if I can make without the cheese.

I say NO alternative, go with the real deal! Deprivation doesn´t work in the long run I think ...just maybe go for the S instead of the XXL?!

How about NOT having pizza? That's probably the best alternative. Find somewhere else to eat. Find better food. I LOVE pizza, but it hurts my weight loss journey severely every time I have it.
I'm my former life as a fat person I had pizza constantly. On my weight loss journey I see that my weight loss stalls UP TO A WHOLE WEEK when I have one. That's no fun at all. We're way better off just skipping it.
In Denmark, where I am, they always have pitas as an alternative at the pizza places. First of all, it's a relatively small, but satisfying meal. It's about 350 calories, if I choose a pita bread with ham, tuna or chicken, with tons of lettuce and a little cucumber and tomato. No dressing. It's really a good meal, and I never leave hungry afterwards. Also, it's only 1/3 of the price.

You could try fritatta. It's basically a baked omlette, but with toppings - so you can top it with your favourite pizza-style things.

Concur. Although it doesn't remotely compare to pizza (love Papa John's The Works BTW) one of the things I eat consists basically of the following:
Santa Fe Whole Grain tortilla
Cover it with cheese
Add in ham, peppers, whatever else you like
Slap on another tortilla
Cook in the microwave or on a frying pan.
The tortillas and cheese are 400 calories and less than 15g of net carbs.
For 500+ calories with low fat, low carbs, and high fiber you can eat something delicious (assuming you like whole grain tortillas of course).
Pain is a by-product of a good time.

I can't wait to try them all, I completely forgot how to make a fritata so going to try that first (and improve my cooking skills, me and eggs.... not good)!

I make my own pizzas instead of buying it. I like to use whole wheat Naan bread and low sodium marinara sauce. I top it with a low fat cheese and tons of veggies. I don't have it all the time but every now and then when i crave pizza and make me one.
Quitting is NOT an option!

Jesyfm, another thing we do are "pizza salads". I got the idea from a local italian restaurant. Basically top your greens with pizza topppings---cheese, peppers, olives, onion and we use turkey pepperoni. Use whatever toppings you like. Dress with an italian dressing. We also use Penzey's pizza seasoning sprinkled on top but you could also just use italian seasoning for some added flavor. For me, it curbs the desire for pizza because I still get the flavors and sometimes I just don't want all the bread.

I make my own pizzas using fajita wrap sheets. I use tomato paste instead of the commercial pizza sauce and I top it up with veggies and either cooked lean ground beef or turkey. Top it off with shredded cheese and put it in the oven till the cheese is melted.

How about making your own just by putting your tomatoe cheese and other toppings on top of either a chapatti or a tortilla wrap and then wrapping it so it's more like a calzone, I'm sure it would taste delicious and saves a lot of calories

You can make your own pizza for about 300 calories.
Small thin premade crust at Meier (meier brand- 130 calories
1/4 cup or less of pizza sauce- 20 to 30 calories
1/4 C mozzeralla chesse- 85 calories- I usually add a bit more than a quarter of a cup of cheese.
You can bake this directly on the rack for about 7 minutes! They are yummy. You can also put a tad bid of olive oil on the edges of the crust if you prefer but I don't think it improves the taste at all. We have this for supper sometimes when we are in the mood for a pizza.

Baked Portobello Pizza
2 large portobello mushrooms, stem removed
1 tablespoon spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce or tomato sauce each one
1 tsp of Romano or Parm Cheese
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
1/2 tablespoon sliced black olives, optional
1 slice of red onion, chopped small
1 clove garlic, chopped or minced
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Place the mushroom on a Pam Olive Oil sprayed baking sheet, and fill the cavity of the portobella with the minced garlic, then add the parm or romano cheese, raw onion, mozzerella and spread sauce in the cup of the cap. Top with parm or romano cheese
Bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and golden. These are soooo good and sooo easy. I find these are lower calorie and so juicey that I like this better than regular pizza.
