Hi everyone! I broke my ankle and have been sentanced to 6 weeks of bed rest to allow some healing before I can be up and around on crutches. Anyone know how to calsulate calorie intake for this situation? 0 activity. i want to make sure the lack of exercise doesn't derail my weight loss efferts. Thanks

Hello, I went through something very similar in January, ruptured achilles and required surgery. I was on the sofa/in bed for at least 4 weeks. I did get up for work (desk job) after 3 weeks.

I stayed on my 1500 calorie a day routine which was prescribed by a nutritionist. Women generally get put on 1200 (My wife was).

My weight loss kept up just fine at those levels. You may find your appetite is much less because of low activity. You just have to fight off "eating from boredom".

It really reinforced what a friend once told me... "It is 80% what you eat, 20% what you do!"

Good luck & Get well soon!

I'm assuming that this means that you only have to keep yourself off the leg, not that you actually have to be flat on your back for weeks. If so, you may want to get a set of dumbbells and do some upper-body exercises to keep yourself moving-- there are lots of things that you can do while sitting up on a bed. You might even be able to figure out some good abdominal exercises that allow your healing to progress.
